Biker dies after cars fail to stop at Middle and Camp Sts

The police say that they are investigating a fatal accident which occurred about 7.30 this morning at the intersection of Middle and Camp Streets that resulted in the death of Motorcyclist Dereck Francis Mangal, 47, a businessman of lot 779 Block X Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.
Investigation, police say, revealed that motorcar PPP 9843 was proceeding north along the western carriageway whilst motorcar PPP 3751 was proceeding west along Middle Street and as the vehicles approached the intersection both drivers failed to stop which resulted in the front of PPP 3751 colliding with the right side of PPP 9843, causing the latter to spin around and collided with the cyclist who was proceeding east along the northern side of Middle Street.
As a result of the impact, police say that the cyclist who sustained injuries to his head and body was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Both drivers are in custody assisting with the investigation, police say.
