Former GDF Head named as Deputy CEO of GPHC

The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) yesterday announced that Brigadier George Lewis has been appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the institution with effect from June 01, 2017.

A release from the GPHC said that he is “suitably qualified and brings to the Institution a wealth of knowledge and experience in management”.

The release said that  Lewis holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Guyana in Public Management and a Master of Science Degree from the Central Michigan University in Human Resources Management.  Additionally, he has qualifications in Project Manage-ment and Conflict Resolution.

Lewis recently retired after a brief stint as Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force.

Observers note that Lewis has no experience in hospital administration.

The appointment will also add to the view that the Granger administration is pushing ahead with the placement of former army personnel in key positions and oftentimes in posts that  are not suited to their skills.
