West Demerara, Georgetown teams battle for semi-final spots

It will be West Demerara versus Georgetown as Santos tackles Uitvlugt and Western Tigers engage Pouderoyen in quarterfinal round of the Stag Nations Cup knock-out football championship today at the Tucville ground.

The opening contest at 18:30hrs which pits Santos against Uitvlugt will see the youthful Santos unit, which opened their campaign following a 4-0 win over Herstelling Raiders, expecting similar results.

They will be  led by the quartet of Keith Canines, Orin Yarde, Jobe Caesar and Vassel Cantzelaar when play  commences while Uitvlugt, who overcame Northern Rangers via penalty kicks in to seal their place in the quarterfinal section will need an improved performance from the likes of Lerone Jacobs, siblings Keyon and Kevin Duke, Jamal Petty, Carisle Carryol, Alex Moore, Denzil Smith, Daniel Floyd, Jermaine Accra, Ryan Andrews, Kevin Fraser, Travis Fraser and Shawn Browel if they are to be successful.

At 20:30hrs, the feature encounter will pit West Ruimveldt giants Western Tigers against West Demerara heavyweights Pouderoyen FC. The Georgetown unit sealed their place in the final eight after thrashing Flamingo 8-0.

Randolph Wagner leads a dangerous lineup featuring likes of Rensford Coleridge, Shamar Wilson, Darren Benjamin, Anthony Sancho, Andre Webber and Dwayne McLennan.

Pouderoyen are a team in transition who sealed their place in the quarterfinal section following a 2-1 win over Mahaica. Much will be expected of siblings Anthony and Ashley Harding alongside Dwayne St. Kitts, Morgan Denny, Kayode King, Marvin Frank, Denzil Boyce, Quessey Alleyne, Esan Nelson and goalkeeper Sherwin Bernard when opening whistle sounds.

Winner of the event will pocket $2,000,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth place finisher will receive $1,000,000, $500,000 and $300,000 respectively and the correspondingly accolade.
