26th Annual R & R International cycling event tomorrow

1st Stage of  Burnham Memorial race  on Sunday

 

The nation’s cyclists are in for a busy weekend as two events are scheduled to pedal off tomorrow and Sunday.

Tomorrow, the National Park circuit will be transformed into a speedway with the staging of the 26th annual R&R International 11-race cycling programme.

The Hassan Mohamed organized fixture starts at 09:00hrs and is expected to attract the cream of the nation’s wheelsmen in the BMX Juveniles, Mountain Bikes, Veterans and Senior categories.

Last year’s feature 35-lap event was won by Team Evolution’s Michael Anthony. The Linden based rider took the spoils in a time of one hour, 15 minutes, 16 seconds.

Other winners of the programme last year included: Andrew Hicks (Juniors and Juveniles 10-laps), Zamal Khan (12-14 Boys and Girls), Warren’40’ McKay (Veterans U-50), Andrew Spencer (Veterans O-50), Monty Parris (Veterans O-60), John Niles (BMX 6-9 Years), Zab James (9-12) and Adeelie Hodge (12-14).

On Sunday, the riders take their talents to the Ancient County to compete in the first leg of the Burnham Memorial Three-Stage race.

The initial stage will see the cyclists starting off at New Amsterdam, journeying to Rose Hall and returning to New Amsterdam for the finish.

One week later, the second and third legs will take place. In the morning, stage two starts in Linden and finishes on Homestretch Avenue, while the finale commences on Homestretch Avenue, proceeds to Belfield and returns to the point of origin for the conclusion.

Some big names like Hamza Eastman, Raynauth Jeffrey, Stephano Husbands, Jamal John, Junior Niles, Orville Hinds, Michael Anthony and Marlon Williams are expected to be in the peloton. (Emmerson Campbell)
