Bounty Farm Ltd Handicap Squash Tournament 2017

– Regan Pollard upset on opening night

The Guyana Squash Association in collaboration with its corporate sponsor Digicel  launched its 2017 season with its customary Bounty Farm Ltd Handicap Squash Tournament at the Georgetown Club Inc. courts. Play commenced on Wednesday night with several exciting matches.

In the Open category Nyron Joseph (-22) had a straight set victory against Jonathan Antczak (+7)  15 – 13, 15- 13, however former national champion and top ranked player Regan Pollard (-14)  was the first main casualty of the event when he was upset by Stephen Persaud 15 – 1, 15 – 11.

Taylor Fernandes (+4) cruised to victory against Gabriella Xavier (+12) 15 – 9, 15 – 12,  while Alex Cheeks (+3) defeated Sarah Lewis (+10) 15 – 11, 15 – 7. Veteran player Denis Dias (+10) used all of his experience to overcome Ryan Rahaman (+7) in three games 8 – 15, 15 – 11, 15 – 5.

In category A Gianni Carpenter (-6) disposed of Rayden Persaud (+13) 16 – 14, 16 – 14 while  Mikhail Persaud (+10) had to overcome a valiant effort by Joshua Verway (+13) before winning 15 – 7, 15 – 12. Paige Fernandes (+8) defeated Grant Fernandes (+13) 15 – 14, 15 – 13

Jonathan De Groot (+11) beat Juanita Fernandes (+13)

15 – 4, 15 – 10

Adam Alves (+7) defeated Patrick Fraser (+5) 15 – 9, 15 – 8

Theron Mohabeer (+7) defeated Andrea King (+10)

15 – 13, 15 – 13

Defending champion in the Open category Jason-Ray Khalil is away at school, so Nyron Joseph starts with the most difficult handicap of -22. Samuel Ince-Carvahal, -8 handicapis thedefending champion in Category A. All matches are best of three, and the finals are set for 19th February, starting at 11.00am.
