Western Tigers tipped to defeat defending champs Milerock

All roads will lead to the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground in Linden tonight when Western Tigers tackle defending champions Milerock and Eagles engage Winners Connection in  quarterfinal matches of the Petra Organization/Limacol Football Championship.

The opening contest at 19:30hrs will resume the traditional Georgetown and Linden rivalry with Western Tigers entering the contest as, the favourite against Milerock.

The West Ruimveldt giant finished group-B with a perfect record following hard-fought wins over New Amsterdam United, Eagles and Uitvlugt.

The Tigers possess a formidable attacking lineup that has scored six times consisting of top scorer Andrew Murray Jr., Devon Millington, Randolph Wagner, Dwayne McLennon, Stellon David and Hubert Pedro.

Murray Jr., has fashioned two goals while unlikely scorers Joshua Britton, Linden Pickets and Jumane Somerset have scored one each with an own goal completing the tally.

Defensively the Georgetown outfit has been surprisingly breached thrice, despite having the personnel of Cleon Forester, Ryan Adolph, Somerset and Pickets to call upon while Milerock has struggled throughout and will need to show tremendous improvement if they are to emerge victorious.

A hard-fought win, a drawn encounter and a defeat highlights their inconsistent form during group-A play with the numbers indicating a struggle especially on the offensive side of the ball.

The Lindeners have only scored twice through Troy Lewis and Akeem Greene in their opening game. Since then they are yet to find the back of the net.

The defence has fared slightly better with only two goals conceded. The feature affair at 21:30hrs is expected to divide the Mining Town when the experienced Winners Connection tackle the youthful Eagles in a Linden derby.

Winners Connection topped group-A with one win and two draws. The numbers highlight their physical and defensive mindset as, they have only conceded once, the joint best record in the event led by Captain Marlon Maximus and Fitzroy Chin.

Offensively, Garey Thompson, Sedrick Hunte and Rawle Gittens have provided the creative spark with one goal each. For Eagles.

Only a 0-1 defeat to Western Tigers have tarnished their group record which also has two wins.

Their attacking nature has witnessed the side tallying five goals, with Kellon Primo leading the charge with three conversions complemented by a goal each from Kendolph Lewis and Kurt Johnson.

Despite being on the smaller side, Eagles have held their own on the defensive end as they have only allowed in two goals.
