Saints Silencers mute Saints Sensations

Saints Silencers secured two wins in the girls division while Old Fort secured a win and a draw in the boys division when the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) sanctioned Smalta U14 Indoor League commenced Friday at the St Joseph’s High School auditorium.

Saints Silencers, led by a double from Mariah Seegobin, defeated Saints Sensations 2-1. On target in the loss was Kieara Williams.

Silencers also defeated St. Joseph’s High 3-0 with Devonte Hernandez recording a hat-trick while Old Fort edged Saints Samurai 3-2. Shoran Urlington and Kai James scored in the win while Williams and Alex Quinn netted in the loss. Also, Old Fort battled to a 3-3 draw with Hikers Garnett Street.

Samuel Garnett recorded a hat-trick for Hikers Garnett Street while Kai James netted three times for Old Fort. In the other results of the boys section, Saints Scorchers overcame Hikers Hatchers 5-3.

Justin Dookie and Oshazay Savoury scored doubles while Naresh Mohadeo scored once. For Hikers Hatchers, Kelvin Simon scored twice and Jaden Smith, once.

Saints Scalpels defeated Hikers Garnett Street 3-1. Keron Bacchus bagged a brace while Nkuma Hutson netted once. On target for Hikers Garnett Street was Tahrea Garnett.

St. Joseph’s High defeated Saints Scorchers 3-2, with Brandon Abrams recording a brace and Erik Yasim scoring once. Dookie netted a double in the defeat.

According to a release from the GHB, the event is geared towards developing players for the Junior Pan American championships in 2020.

The event, which is played utilizing a 4-a-side format, features teams from Saints Hockey Club, Hikers, Old Fort, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), Marian Academy and St Joseph’s High School.

Each team is allowed to register a maximum of 10 players. The league will be held every Friday with games starting at 4:00pm and concluding at 7:00pm. Tomorrow, the action will continue at Marian Academy with the GCC and Marian Academy teams getting their first games of the tournament.
