The inaugural Motorsports GT Grand Prix which was staged on Friday at GMR&SC was a resounding success and brainchild of the event, Vishok Persaud envisions greater things to come.
“It will attract many foreign participants and will be used to promote and lift the quality of performance locally, it was also a great opportunity to showcase up and coming talent,” Persaud said yesterday.
He added: “The Georgetown Grand Prix will be a series of events with an annual overall winner per class and this will augur well to produce many new drivers for South Dakota Circuit where the bigger events are held.”
Friday’s staging attracted competitors from Canada and Trinidad and Tobago but was dominated by the locals.
Two-time Caribbean Motor Racing champion, Kristian Jeffrey emerged winner in all three allotted races in the featured Shifter Karts Pro Cup.
Jeffrey thrilled racing fans with some excellent driving
skills, racing to three wins in as many starts, overcoming former karting champion, Orry Hunte as well as his Canadian Driving coach Darryl Timmers. Shane Seebarran surged to the two wins in the 4-stroke Easy (heavy), while Rameez Mohamed came in second on both occasions. Third-place spot went to Raymond Seebarran and Haniff Mohamed. Trinidadian Bridget Singh emerged victorious with two victories in the 125cc senior category while Mikail Persaud drove home with two wins in the junior category. Stephon Jeffrey and Terry Singh each had a second place position to complete this category.
The event attracted corporate support from Monster Energy Drink, Sun Burst Juices, Stag Beer, Ray’s Motor Spares, Secure Innovations and Concepts, E-Networks, Superbet, Ocean Spray Hotel, BM Soat, Prem’s Electrical Store and Honda Powersports.
