Cheddi Jagan Memorial cycle race scheduled for Sunday in Berbice

The roads of the Ancient County will be transformed into a cycling battleground when the Cheddi Jagan Memorial road race pedals off on Sunday.

According to the event’s organizer Hassan Mohamed, the BK International sponsored fixture is scheduled for a 09:00hrs start at New Amsterdam. The 55-mile race then proceeds to No. 51 Village, and returns to Port Mourant for the finish.

Standout wheelsmen like defending champion, Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams, along with 2017’s leading cyclist, Hamza Eastman,  his inform club mate, Stephano Husbands, Michael Anthony and Paul DeNobrega are all scheduled to gear up and go wheel to wheel for the top podium spot.

Last year’s road race champion, Geron Williams along with 2016’s most successful rider, Orville Hinds and other prominent bikers like Shaquel Agard, Jamal John, Raul Leal, Junior Niles and others will also be on their saddles.

Raphael Leung is the defending champion of the junior category and will be looking for a repeat.

Thuran Harris (veterans), Richard Charles (mountain bike), Monty Parris (over-60) and Whitney Poyer (female) were also categorical winners last year.

Note: Transportation for the cyclists and officials will leave the Robb Street headquarters of the People’s Progressive Party at 05:00hrs.

BK International is sponsoring the event for the 20th successive year.
