interact with some of the youngsters who will be aiming to serve themselves and Guyana to championship honors. We caught up with a few of the loopers at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, yesterday. Here are their profiles.

Name: Jamal Nicholas

Age: 14

School: Central High School

Jamal Nicholas

Local titles won: Junior Cadet under 15 title in 2015 and a doubles Open title in 2017

Experience for Guyana: 2015 and 2016 Joola tournaments in Washington D.C

Type of player: right-handed

Strengths: forehand and serve

Kaysan Ninvalle

Categories to compete in during the championships: under 15 teams, doubles and singles

Goals for the tournament: “I want to come out in the top four.”

Name: Kaysan Ninvalle

Age: 11

School:Chase Academy

Foundation

Priscilla Greaves

Local titles won: Nine local titles at the junior level

Regional titles: Won the 11 years and Under category at last year’s Caribbean Pre-Cadet and Cadet championships

Experience: Represented Guyana in 2009 and 2013 Jamaica and Washington D.C in 2016

Jamaali Homer

Type of player: right-handed

Strengths: forehand and backhand

Categories to compete in during the championships: Under 15 boys

Goals for the tournament: “I want to carry the team as far as possible and work to win the championship.”

Name: Nevaeh Clarkston

Local titles won: 10 local titles won

Experience: Represented Guyana in the Dominica Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Washington D.C

Type of player: right-hand

Strengths: forehand loop and backhand

Categories to compete in: Under 15 girls singles, doubles and mixed doubles

Goals for the tournament: “I’m focused on doing well and helping my team win the championship.”

Name: Jamaali Homer

Age: 17

School: The Bishops’ High

Local titles won: National Under-13 champion in 2012

Experience: Played in Dominican Republic and Trinidad and Tobago in 2011, Barbados and Jamaica in 2012 and Jamaica in 2013

Type of player: right-handed

Strengths: forehand and backhand

Categories to compete in: Under 18 girls, singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

Goals for the tournament: “I aiming to pass the fourth round and play my best from there.”

Name: Priscilla Greaves

Age: 17

School: School of the Nations

Local titles won: Under 9, 11, 13 15 and 18 national titles

Experience: Barbados in 2009, Jamaica in 2012, Washington D.C in 2015 and 2016

Type of player: right-handed

Strengths: serves and forehand

Categories to compete in: Girls Under 18 singles, doubles and mixed doubles

Goals for the tournament: “With this being my last year as a junior, I hope to perform to the best of my ability to make myself and country proud.”
