Jaguars in pole position for hat-trick following great escape

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC — Guyana Jaguars’ great escape against Barbados Pride at Kensington Oval on Monday, ensured they remained at the top of the Regional four-day championship and firm favourites to win a third straight title.

Outplayed from the start of the eighth round fixture, Jaguars somehow held on Monday, the final day, to earn a draw and come away from the contest with 6.6 points.

The two teams also drew their fourth round fixture in Georgetown.

Jaguars sit on 109.8 points and will now fancy their chances of getting outright results in their final two fixtures which are against Leeward Islands Hurricanes and Windward Islands Volcanoes, and going on to register a hat-trick of titles.

Pride trail in second by just under 11 points and will feel they have missed their chance to take pole position in the race for the title.

They take on Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in the next round with a tricky final round game against Jamaica Scorpions also beckoning.

Scorpions, who halted their two-game losing skid with a convincing victory over Red Force inside three days last weekend, are just four points behind Pride in third on 95.2.

Volcanoes, meanwhile, beat Hurricanes in the eighth round to also halt a worrying trend of bad results, and are fourth on 74.2 points with Hurricanes one from bottom on 66.4.

Red Force lie dead bottom on 63.8 points after registering their fifth loss of the season. The season will break for a week before resuming with the ninth round on April7.
