Vehicle taxes to be waived for toshaos in ‘approved communities’

Several categories of workers including toshaos from approved Amerindian communities will be exempt from taxes on vehicles and ATVs following an amendment proposed by Minister of Finance Winston Jordan.

Jordan made the announcement during his Budget 2015 presentation yesterday. One amendment reads that “Toshaos in approved Amerindian Communities shall be exempt from Customs duties on motor vehicles and ATVs.”

He also proposed an amendment to the Excise Tax Regulations 2005 so that eligible members of the Joint Services, qualifying under Section 23 of the Customs Act Cap. 82:01 are exempt from the payment of excise tax for motor vehicles; Toshaos in approved Amerindian communities shall be exempt from excise tax on motor vehicles and ATVs and a supply of motor vehicles under a Government contract entered into on behalf of the Government with taxable persons shall be exempt from the payment of excise tax in accordance with that contract.
