Boxing contingents set for B/dos, St Lucia tournaments

Two amateur boxing contingents spearheaded by the International Boxing Association (IBA) ranked sisters, Alesha and Abiola Jackman are set to leave these shores on Thursday and Friday to represent Guyana in St Lucia and Barbados.

Dillon Mahadeo returned home and led current national champion, Omissi Williams (628 points) and Trinidad’s Mikhail Ragoonanan (589 points) onto the podium. Bryan Snaggs of Trinidad (557 points) and Williams’ gym mate, Kellon Reid (534 points) rounded out the top five positions.

Gladiators for across the Region went head-to-head during this past weekend at the National Aquatic Centre and the National Park in a series of grueling challenges in an effort to be crowned the fittest man and woman in the Caribbean.

CARIFTA Games outfit return to stirring welcome

Greeted with flowers, confetti and rhythmic drumming, the CARIFTA Games contingent which represented Guyana in the Bahamas during the Easter weekend returned to a patriotic welcome yesterday at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

Munroe is new GOA president

Godfrey Munroe ascended to the presidency of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) by a landslide yesterday when the body held its Electoral General Meeting (EGM) at Olympic House.
