Forum to include specialist lectures on project management
The Guyana Committee of the Southern Chapter of the United States-based Project Management Institute (PMI SCC) will host a project management seminar in Georgetown on October 31 which, local Committee Chairman Oswald Dey says will provide significant impetus to the professionalisation of project management in Guyana.

The forum, which will be held at the Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel  under the theme “Project Management and Practices for Sustaining Business and Development will feature presentations by regional professionals on new trends in project management that can realize greater organizational efficiency in both public and private sector projects.”

Participants in the forum will hear five specialist presentations which will address: A Contractor’s Perspective on Bid Preparation; Project Leadership and its Criticality to Project Success;  Improving IT Project Management in the Caribbean; Cash Flow Management for Development and Construction Projects and The Importance of Embracing a Project Approach to Business Development in Guyana.
Dey told Stabroek Business that the forum is seeking to attract local students of project management, representatives of the business community  as well as practitioners from both the public and private sectors. He said that the objectives of the forum include the creation of professional linkages among project management practitioners in the Caribbean as well as to help local businesses secure a more effective understanding of the importance of applying a project management  approach to business initiatives. He said that the forum will also allow for discourse on issues affecting the practical and successful application  of project management in Guyana and around the region.

Members of the Board of Directors of the Trinidad and Tobago-based Southern Caribbean Chapter of the PMI visited Guyana in September to meet with local public and private sector officials and to promote the newly established Guyana Committee. Dey told Stabroek Business that the October 31 forum will be used to formally inaugurate the Guyana Committee.  Dey said that the Georgetown forum will be promoted in 171 countries around the world through the PMI’s global network and that the various chapters of the PMI will benefit from subsequent outcomes of the forum.
