Contribution While small businesses may not generate as much money as large corporations, they are a critical component of, and a major contributor to, the strength of local economies.

The litany of Guyana’s woes continue every day; we all know the instances, as we are regaled with examples coming from established columnists, various letter writers, and social media platforms.

Introduction As indicated last week, today’s column continues the discussion of risks and pitfalls facing mineral resources extraction in Guyana.

New board As many Guyanese would be aware, a new governing board of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) was established in June of last year to execute the mandates expressed in Section 12 of the Revenue Authority Act regarding the approval of policy, monitoring of the performance of the GRA and the discipline and control of the staff.

The sudden transformations in societies – email, cell phones – are often the result of an equipment revolution, and we spot them quickly; the slower transformations occur so slowly that we don’t even notice the shift until some sudden circumstance makes us aware.

When I was a young and bursting with energy and exuberant life-force I was eager to travel far and wide, more than ready to range around the world discovering new places and meeting people of every kind, outlook and temper.
