Bhattacharya’s book shows us what we need to fix
Dear Editor,Ryhaan Shah, in her letter of January 24 (‘A completely different take on Bhattacharya’s book’), criticises The Sly Company of People Who Care, the recent book by Rahul Bhattacharya, for its presentation of four-letter words and violence to women in depicting the Guyanese culture, and she is upset at persons (me included) praising the work.
The grace period for the issuing of motor vehicle licences will apply to the first year of the new system only
Dear Editor,I have noticed with some amount of amusement that in recent times there has been an upsurge in the letters column of your newspaper, of very critical missives concerning the operations of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) and more particularly the Licence Revenue Department (LRD).
The AFC’s willingness to talk with the President on public sector wage increases is consistent with their track record of going to bat for workers
Dear Editor,In response to your news article, ‘GTUC concerned about AFC’s approach on public sector wages,‘ (January 27), I think there has been a complete misunderstanding of the AFC’s role and motive in expressing a willingness to meet with President Ramotar to discuss wage increases for public sector workers.
Who is in charge?
Dear Editor,In light of events since the election, I am asking a legitimate question on the minds of many Guyanese: who is really in charge of Guyana, Mr Ramotar or Mr Jagdeo? Firstly, Donald Ramotar’s selection (not election) as the PPP’s presidential candidate was made by the PPP’s executive committee dominated by Jagdeo loyalists and appointees.

The NBS Board never regarded Arjoon, Vincent and Kissoon as having been involved in fraud
Dear Editor,Now that the criminal charges against the three former managers of NBS have been dismissed, as a former director of the NBS Board, I think that justice and decency require that I state publically that at no time did the NBS Board contemplate that Maurice Arjoon, Kent Vincent, or Kissoon Baldeo were criminally or otherwise involved in the fraudulent withdrawal of funds from a member’s account.
Bhattacharya does not use fig-leaf dashes to cover up vile language
Dear Editor,Regarding your publication of my letter on January 24, 2012 (‘A completely different take on Bhattachary’s book’), I am aware that SN cannot publish in full all the brutal language that Rahul Bhattacharya reports in his book The Sly Company of People who Care.
Headley should be included in the discussion
Dear Editor,I would like to thank Dr Ian McDonald for his letter (‘Headley should be ahead of Bradman,’ SN, January 25) in response of my letter of January 22.
Kissoon is the latest victim of normalcy PPP-style
Dear Editor,And finally they did it.
All fair-minded Guyanese should condemn the termination of Kissoon’s contract
Dear Editor,I join in condemning the termination of Mr Freddie Kissoon’s contract by the University of Guyana.
Why can’t ‘real’ cricket get similar funding to softball?
Dear Editor,I see there is another softball tournament being sponsored to tune of some $30,000,000.
Advantage is being taken of those who receive barrels
Dear Editor,Everywhere you turn in Guyana, advantage is being taken of our helpless citizens with little condemnation from those who are supposed to help.
Central government for years has tied the hands of the city council
Dear Editor,I am aware of a television programme which featured Minister Norman Whittaker and Mr Keith Burrowes on the National Communications Network over the weekend.
There will be progress in the livestock sector when affordable technologies appropriate for our climatic conditions and cultural mores are pursued
Dear Editor,In a news item of Jan 19, Kaieteur News reported that the Ministry of Agriculture’s Artificial Insemination Laboratory project has attracted two bids for the supply, delivery and installation of lab equipment.
The fact there is no known mining upriver should not preclude testing for mercury
Dear Editor,I am pleased that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has vouchsafed the results of tests on the water quality of the affected part of the Haieka River and has volunteered information on the possible investigation into fish deaths in other communities.
