National budget passed, historic motion on NRF approved

Following days of debate and the consideration of estimates, the 2022 Budget of $552.9 billion was passed yesterday by the National Assembly and it also approved the amount of $129.6 billion to be withdrawn from the country’s Natural Resource Fund (NRF) to help fund the expenditure.

Gov’t plans to transform GDF – President

Stating that the country has no interest in seeking confrontation or conflict, President Irfaan Ali yesterday said that the Government plans to transform the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) into an intelligence- and technology-driven institution to safeguard the nation’s resources and protect against threats and challenges that may arise.

‘My government is above board’

President Irfaan Ali yesterday said that the accusations of bribery put to Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo by US-based media outlet, VICE News during an interview last week are just mere allegations and was done for sensationalism.

CXC recognises QC as School of the Year

Queen’s College was yesterday recognised as the top Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Carib-bean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) school of the year at the Carib-bean Examinations Council (CXC) 2021 Awards Ceremony At the British Virgin Islands event, held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Guyana carted off nine awards including for most outstanding CSEC and CAPE students, which were won by Zaynab Shaffie and Samuel Haynes, respectively.
