Letters to the Editor

Dancers with the Stars?

Dear Editor, I read (SN, June 18) that the President said to the new members of the GPF that there are “too many complaints” and that there is the need to be “even-handed.”

Charge filed; out-of-court settlement ignored

Dear Editor, An agreement from a Justice of the Peace which was accepted last week allegedly at the request of the police in Region 2 as settlement in a road accident has now been rejected with the driver of a hire- car having to face a charge for dangerous driving.

Action speaks louder than words

Dear Editor, We read with great interest the exhortation by the Head of State to ranks of the police force, viz, that they must not be bought ‒ very, very commendable.

The President should have been addressing ‘rogue’ public officials

Dear Editor, In reference to your daily edition of the Stabroek News, dated June 18, I read with much concern about the President Ramotar’s address to the police at the recent commissioning of the police training centre, and for a moment I felt that he was only addressing a part of the problem that he was referring to.

Out-of-court settlements to avoid a charge are illegal

Dear Editor, A few days ago, a hire car driver whose vehicle was involved in an accident in Region 2 related to me that he was advised by the police to get a document agreeing to a settlement between the parties involved from a justice of peace, so the matter could be settled at the station.
