Letters to the Editor

Traditional publishers pay authors for their work

Dear Editor, The use of the Caribbean Press imprint for the publication of the book of Minister Frank Anthony’s daughter – a paid publication – raises many issues and Mr Ruel Johnson is quite correct to bring this matter to the public’s notice.

Shared government will create gridlock

Dear Editor, Writing in the SN of January15 under the title ‘Ramkarran did not acknowledge African feelings of disenfranchisement’ Dr David Hinds suggests:  “I make bold to say that just as the PPP’s behaviour in office  has been heavily influenced by the perception and reality of  its treatment at the hands of the PNC in office, that the PNC’s behaviour in office was also largely grounded  in similar fears, perceived and real, arising from the PPP’s 1957-64 tenure.

Newly appointed teachers have been paid

Dear Editor, Reference is made to your letter dated January 7, 2013, seeking a comment in relation to a letter to the editor published in Stabroek News on January 3 and captioned ‘Newly appointed teachers not paid after five months.’

Jury still out

Dear Editor, The jury will still be out when it comes to deciding whether capital punishment should be taken off our statute books.

What is the function of the Caribbean Press Board in selecting works?

Dear Editor, Like David Dabydeen, I have my own writing to do and this issue of the Caribbean Press is proving tedious, particularly in the willingness of certain players to either remain silent in what is a clear cut issue, or to bend over backward to accommodate the most absurdly facile rationalisations.

Guyana needs a national water authority

Dear Editor, The recurring incidences of overtopping along the sea and river defences, the recent reports of scarcity of irrigation water, and the historical approach of discharging excess fresh water into our rivers and the Atlantic Ocean prompted me to write this letter.

C’mon Man!

Dear Editor, I admit that I am an enthusiast when it comes to American football.

People should avoid the error of blaming the APNU leadership

Dear Editor, As you travel around Guyana and share views with persons of every walk of life, social class, religious persuasion, ethnic affinity and age, you hear expressed concerns about the opposition, and more specifically, the APNU leadership, that they are not doing enough.

Does anyone in authority care?

Dear Editor, A letter by W P George in the SN under the caption, ‘GPL should not be placing more burden on the hard-pressed consumers’ instantly brought back thoughts of the Linden electricity increase protest and made me wonder aloud: what if we (Linden/Region 10) were tied in to the insidious and oppressive national grid (GPL)?
