Letters to the Editor

Guyana media should have written on Brexit case

Dear Editor, I am very disappointed that the Guyana media did not see it fit to write on the very important Brexit case which can affect the lives of 30 thousand Guyanese living in Britain and the tens of millions in the UK and Europe.

Theresa May was attempting to run away from a Brexit debate

Dear Editor, On January 24 the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom upheld an earlier decision of the High Court, that Prime Minister Theresa May cannot invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, to commence formal withdrawal from the European Union (EU), without the consent of the Parliament.

EPA, NDC interventions a waste of time

Dear Editor, For years my health has been besieged by excessive levels of air pollution which I relayed often to the relevant apathetic authorities, namely the EPA and NDC with responsibility for the village of Lusignan.

Why can’t Guyana achieve what Cuba did in education?

Dear Editor, Fidel Castro expired on November 25, at the age of 90, but whatever may be said of his achievements or disappointments that followed the revolution of 1959, it is difficult to dispute the success of the educational system that produces a literacy rate of 99.7%.

New Demerara Bridge should be double decked

Dear Editor, I venture to respectfully enquire if the authorities responsible for the planning of the new Demerara Harbour Bridge have given any serious thought to inviting designs for the construction of a double-decked bridge.

The one criterion for team selection or exclusion should be cricketing ability or lack thereof

Dear Editor, If WI could select an eleven from a squad that includes Badree, Blackwood, Chase, Carlos and Kraigg Brathwaite, Darren and Dwayne Bravo, Bishoo, Charles, Dowich, Gabriel, Gayle, Shai Hope, Joseph, Mohammed, Nikita Miller, Narine, Pollard, Roach, Russell,Sammy, Samuels, Taylor, Simmons and a few of the young promising players, assisted by a full coaching staff and sports psychologist, their odds of winning games starting with the upcoming series against England would increase considerably.

Festival City is becoming a shanty town

Dear Editor, Festival City was established in 1972 under the late President Forbes Burnham, as a village where visiting guests and artists for Carifesta ’72 were accommodated in the 250 houses specially constructed in North Ruimveldt.

The GGDMA does not speak for the small miners

Dear Editor, In a strongly worded and offensive press release issued on January 19, the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) revealed their contempt for us small miners, calling us puppets and acolytes while accusing us of being sellouts and itinerants.

A blunder by the law officers of the state should not be shifted onto the court or any member of the court

Dear Editor, I refer to the caption contained at page 1 and the article at pages 3 and 5 of the Guyana Chronicle of January 19 under the headings, ‘Singh strikes’ and ‘Singh strikes twice’, and request that you publish this correspondence so the public would not be misled on the Bharrat Jagdeo, Babu John alleged racial statement case in the Court of Appeal.
