Dear Editor,
I was told that I had to apply in person for the renewal of my drivers’ licence this year, so on Friday 10th I made what I thought was an early start, arriving at the licensing office at 7.55 am armed with my application form.
Dear Editor,
Thank you for your editorial on ‘Flooding and incompetence‘ (February 13) reminding us of the many serious drainage problems that the government has failed to solve.
Dear Editor,
Amid the continuing and equally contentious differences between the government anointed Interim Management Committee (IMC) and the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), I feel compelled as a member of the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) to support the members of the GCB in the light of the Rupert Foster Audit Report and in particular Mr Sheik Ahmad, who is the President of the Essequibo Cricket Board and former Treasurer of the Guyana Cricket Board.
Dear Editor,
The citizens of this country spoke on November 28, giving a clear message to our Parliament that this will not be business as usual and their expectations are high, just and reasonable.
It took two years after former President Bharrat Jagdeo assented to the Private Security Services Act (2009) for the Order actualizing its provisions to be signed by the Minister of Home Affairs.
Dear Editor,
I have been watching patiently as our new political situation unfolds, and I have seen numerous signs that the PPP does not understand the current dispensation, starting with that first article in the media when Mr Nandlall was recorded as telling the opposition that his department will not be drafting or re-tabling any bills modified to the wishes of the now opposition controlled parliament, since he says that he is working for the executive and not the legislative part of government.
Dear Editor,
The UN’s designation of 2011 as the International Year for People of African Descent was intended to inspire celebrations of our achievements in the diaspora as well as a means to reestablish our dignity as a people.
Dear Editor,
As the years go by, many of us would from time to time turn back the pages of years long past reminiscing on events, incidents, gatherings, associations, etc, sometimes wishing we could turn back the hands of time to return to particular occasions which delighted us.
Dear Editor,
We thank you for the opportunity to respond to a letter written by Pastor Ram about the access road at Lusignan (‘Heavy duty equipment destroying road around children’s playground’ SN, February 3).
Dear Editor,
Fishermen and residents of the Corentyne Coast have been on the receiving end of the wrath of piracy, which seems to have become the new trend of criminal attack on Guyanese.
Dear Editor,
With regard to news items (SN Feb 10,11) on the police raid on the Trinidad Newsday office and the home of a news and investigative reporter, I applaud the media house and the journalist for not revealing his source for an article.
As stated in the February 5, 2012 Sunday Stabroek editorial, after two decades in office inclusive of a major disaster seven years ago, the PPP/C government has run out of excuses where it relates to viable solutions and a comprehensive plan to confront flooding.
Those of us who live in towns where floods find us ankle deep in water and filth whenever there is drizzle that goes beyond a few minutes, cannot possibly visualize – even with the help of the pictures that appear in the newspapers – the really hellish conditions that prevail in other more low-lying regions of the country in these La Nina times.
