A leader needs to have vision

Dear Editor,
It is with much amusement I read a letter to the editor by Ms Tandica Todd suggesting Mr R. Corbin as the “only viable leader.” (SN, 12.11.08). Maybe to her he is, to me he epitomises incompetence. Anyone who is living in this country sees and understands much to the contrary. The PNC under the current leadership is bereft of ideas and has nothing to offer its “constitutency,” much less the young people of this country. This organisation limps along on press conferences with common script personalities, often times incapable of narrating the scripts provided.

Ms Todd uses words like ‘experience,’ ‘knowledge’ and ‘vision’ to underscore her recommendation. Experience and knowledge maybe, visionary, never was and never will be. Recent events in the USA debunk the notion of experience as a major prerequisite, but reinforce the need for a leader with aptitude, integrity and yes, vision.

My advice to the young men and women of this dear land, is to stay in school and commit yourselves to your personal development, which will inevitably lead to our national development.  Please allow those like Ms Todd to continue in their slumber.
Yours faithfully,
Colin Marks

Good letter,I think it is just Corbin getting his soupies to write praise of him. The man had hinted that after a while he would have stepped down the leadership of the party, now is time. I would never ever vote PNC with Corbin as head, the man is a true dictator.

It is nice to know that Mr Marks is speaking for himself and himself alone.

Contrary to your belief Milton, Mr Marks is speaking for Amarie, A.Persaud, Paul Rodman, Terry, Badlall, Blahblah, Sandhurst First, Ulric, Mr Corbin, RDMAN, Tessa, Maverick, bgsbny, Forbes Moore, abbadabbadoo, Big D, Tiger, Caesar Augustus, Blkchiney, Evileyes and the thousands of Guyanese and PNCR Supporters, young and old, at home and abroad, who do not have any means of , or who are afraid to express their views freely.

But I am not upset with you Milton, because, without opposing views we may never get it right. That is what Mr R Corbin needs to understand and respect. He needs to stop viewing every independent thinker as a threat to his office.

Are you hoping to replace James McAllister in Parliament Milton? From the tone and content of your little comment, it seems as though you are in the bidding. Unless you are Niocie Brown, Christopher Jones, Charles Corbin or Andrea Marks, Corbie may think that you are smart and will eventually be a threat to his incompetence.
Do not allow me or anyone to deter your ambitions though, reach for the stars!!!

Colin, I like that you are being very objective. Unlike Ms Todd, you are very much aware of the the current state of the party affairs. The party could use young people like yourself in order to advance its positions. But as I would have stated in my comments on “Paper Members”, strong independent young people will never see the light of day in Corbin’s Administration.
But do not despair, an Obama is coming to rescue the PNCR from its state of doom.
  5. Amarie UNITED STATES says:
Mr. Marks could not have said it any better. Experience alone does not a leader make!
Beyond these glowing tributes that Ms Todd bestows on Corbin I have to wonder about the following:
What is Corbin’s record in Parliament and Guyana?
What tangible changes that benefitted Guyanese has he spearheaded?
What is his plan for the people of Guyana?( Not just for the PNC supporters, but all of Guyana.)

Corbin’s vision does not extend to an area beyond his nose and he is doomed to the same old party grime because it is all he knows. The PNC needs a new leader at the helm…and it shouldn’t be Ms. Todd either as she is also afflicted by the same near-sighted malady.

Know something, I often overhear people debating all the time.”Who is the greatest president, etc.” This is a waste of time and utter foolishness. These people elected should not be idolized. They are doing a job and are paid to do it. By us. Quite often, popular leaders, elected on a rush of enthuasasm,90% of the time turn out to be your worst enemy, incompetent, a tax hiker, womanizer in office, and a blatant liar. Be careful how you worship these individuals. It is better to forget these people and focus on yourself, and pay attention to where you are going. You will solve half of your problems this way.
