Recipients should uplift medication from nearest local office

Dear Editor,
Please permit me to respond to a letter in the Stabroek News dated 17.11.2008, bearing the caption ‘The NIS needs to organize the distribution of medication to pensioners in a more systematic way.’

First of all, the writer stated that ten years ago the number of persons receiving medication from the NIS was not so large. This is true and has now become a great concern to the scheme, since some of these persons do not qualify for this benefit.

This situation has been created because of persons who refuse to utilize the services provided at our local offices. NIS continues to distribute medication, and until such time, is committed to doing so with respect and consideration for all recipients.

NIS is therefore appealing to all drug recipients to uplift medication from the nearest local office.
It is in light of the aforesaid, that I wish to inform this writer that his recommendations were noted and efforts are being made to implement same as is practicable.
Yours faithfully,
