‘Missing’ mother found locked in Craig house

Octogenarian Noelina Prospere-Medor who had been reported missing was found yesterday at a house at Craig, East Bank Demerara.
Police broke into the house, which was padlocked, and removed the frail-looking elderly woman some time after 5 pm. She was alone at the time, but there were reported signs of others residing at the residence.

The woman identified herself to police when questioned and spoke of her son, Sylvester Medor, who had been in Guyana searching for her but left without any information as to where she was.

Prospere-Medor was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical evaluation and admission. Sources at the hospital said the woman appeared to be dehydrated, in addition to her frail condition.

Stabroek News saw the elderly woman at the hospital last night as she waited to see a doctor. She was on a stretcher but according to reports, she can use her legs. She spoke with persons gathered around.

“Is de old woman from de papers,” a woman said, and Prospere-Medor responded, “I am Noelina”.
While in the ER, Prospere-Medor received a telephone call from her son, who had approached the media last month, with the story of his missing mother. He had searched for her prior to going public with the story and only returned to the UK a few days ago. Prospere-Medor broke into tears after a cellular phone was handed to her and she heard her son’s voice.

Prospere-Medor is a St. Lucian who settled in Guyana many years ago. A couple who was in contact with her son had been entrusted with her care, but after they separated it was reported that the husband kept Prospere-Medor.

The police were investigating the woman’s disappearance and are still involved in the case. This newspaper was informed that the woman is likely to remain at the public hospital until a relative turns up or proper authorization is given for her to be removed.

what assistance are you expecting from the armed forces etc…you all are expecting too much of the security system…they had to concentrate more in locating and finding the woman rather than wasting time with her son…….please allow these people to do their job and don’t look for and find faults…I congratulate the police in finding her so quickly and placing her immediately in the hands of the medical team……Allow them now to track down the culprits who are involved in this cruel act…

Good work gpf you did a godd job of locating ms. medor. I know that something was fishy about this story when the other women gave her side of the story, whosoever was involved in abducting and hiding away ms. medor should be brought before the courts and sentenced for putting this elderly woman through such an horrible ordeal.

Take her back to the UK?? God forbid. This place is far too cold for a woman of that fraility and age,No way. or perhaps if she has living relations in her country o birth!! Perhaps that shuld be explored. Guyana.. believe me is the best place for her. This place is freezing right now and it’s only October. I can’t take the cold in England right now and I’m far younger than this dear soul. He needs to arrange proper care right thre in Guyana for this woman… and as to not speaking with his mother for over 40 years. Don’t put all the blame on him, I can tell you about that generation of ‘mothers’!! They’re not easy. I get the feeling not many people knew she had a son even. He was hiden!! Shame!! Pride! Who knows her reason. The fault is not altogether his. It’s both of them. The bible says, chldren are to ‘honor their parents that their lives are long upon the land which the Lord our God has given’ us, also it goes on to say parents should not give their children due cause….. words to that effect. Both have a duty, so please don’t blame the son altogther. And yes, he is given a second chance to redeem himself in the eyes of society, his mother and the almighty. He should know that. I wish them both luck.

So very good news for Mr Syl Medor, if he is really interested in the well bieng of his mother, he should be back in Guyana by tomorrow.
Those who had the poor Old lady in that state, at Craig Village locked inside like an animal, will have to render to the Police why they didn’t let the old lady meet her son,
This can be a form of Kidnaping. Demanding money and have the Mother hidden..

I’m glad this woman is found. Shame on the person who had her locked up in the house without supervision, and being dehydrated. This shows improper care. I hope some responsible individual can be found to take care of this woman so she can live with some sort of dignity until it is time for her to meet her maker.

    Some good news.
Now this cries out for some things to be put in place to prevent this from happening again and the outcome being totally different.
The politrickians need to take the lead on this followed closely by the religious and social organisations resident in Guyana. I don’t think it calls for money so much as it does for regulation.
My suggestion does not intend to remove the responsibility for elder care from the descendants of the elder person (My sister and I ensured that our elder ones received proper care and attention when it became necessary), but I would like to see something in place where for starters -persons in care of elder persons being properly trained and monitored to ensure that no abuse is going on.

After not seeing his mother for forty years,Mr.Medore should now realise he’s been given a second chance,so hope he’s gonna do what he has’nt been doing for such a long time.
Thank God she has been found alive, alert, and communicative. Her medical problems will be taken care of,but the person or persons that had her locked away should be dealt accordingly by the GPF.
There’s only one “MOM” in this life,so take good care of her.

My heart is relieved that Mrs. Medore has been found alive but looking at this story the person that had her locked in the house should be charged for Kidnapping as her son was here and this story was published all over the media also filed at the police station and no attempt was made to deliver her to her son. I hope they arrest and charge the person/s for kidnapping.
As for Mr. Medore, I cry shame for as far as I say abandoning yor mother for forty (40) years. Money is not all to life, one needs to be there in person for their mother always. Now you have the opportunity to do that, just do it.

I DONT LIKE THAT PART WHERE SHE WAS LOCKED UP IN A HOUSE ALL ALONE , BUT ATLEAST SHE WAS IN PROPER CONDITION WHEN FOUND. WHO WAS THE PERSON LIVING THERE WITH HER? HOW DID THE POLICE KNOW THAT SHE WAS THERE. WILL THAT MAN WHO CALLS HIMSELF HER SON DO THE RIGHT THING FOR HIS MOM? OR IS IT INDEED HER PROPERTY THAT HE IS AFTER? I am happy to learn that this woman has been found.
However I urged the Human Services social workers to get involved in this and prosecute the person(s) who did this to this elderly woman, whose care they were entrusted with.
No doubt the son must have been sending money to these people to take care of his mother, what did they do with the money that were send for them to take care of the expenses.
Do these people have mothers? What if this was their mother?
