All venues except stadium now ticket free
Tickets are no longer required for CARIFESTA X venues excepting for the national stadium, the festival secretariat announced yesterday.
According to a release from the secretariat, persons only require tickets to enter the events being held at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, which includes the super concerts, the gospel concert and the closing ceremony.
The other events, including the plays being held at the Theatre Guild and those at the National Cultural Centre no longer require persons presenting tickets to enter.
Events at the Sophia Exhibition Centre and other events also don’t require tickets.
“Persons are however advised that entry to events will be on a first come, first served basis,” the release said.
The system for tickets distribution had been widely criticized. The secretariat did not say why the policy had changed.

In reply to the above comment on August 25th, 2008 10:21 am:nope…the tickets should have been sold at a nomial amount …say 3 to 5 hundred dollars depending on the event …super concerts excepted……what is going to happen now is a stampede to get into these events….of course certain people will not have to line up

In reply to the above comment on August 25th, 2008 11:51 am:I agree. Freeness would put people at risk of injury and death in some instances.
In the interest of public safety there has to be some sort of control on the number of people in the venues.
Collecting a few dollars would help defray the security, cleanup and related expenses.

on August 25th, 2008 3:08 pmwhat about the visitors? how were they supposed to get tickets for the events? I think they did the right thing by freeing it up. not everyone will want to go everyday to see the same event. I don’t think there will be much of a difference from if a small fee was charged.

on August 25th, 2008 4:18 pmWell no one has to worry about any stampede…there’s really nothing to see at CARIFESTA.And frankly, the Guyanese have no money to spend, so the exhibitors might as well pack up early.
