Army clarifies status of dead former soldiers

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) says that a Kaieteur News report on the death of the three pirates, who were shot dead at Cromarty, Corentyne wrongly attribute appointments to them “to which they were never entitled while alive”.

A press release from the GDF said that on the second page of last Saturday’s edition of the Kaieteur News, it was stated that “One of the dead bandits has been positively identified as James Gibson, a former GDF officer…”  The article continued, the release said “…Another bandit was positively identified as Cliff Chichester… a former cadet officer…”

The army asserted that Gibson was dismissed from the force for failing to meet the required standards on the Army’s Standard Officer’s Course, while Chichester was a Lance Corporal, who was dismissed for stealing from the GDF.

Thanks for the timely clarification GDF, on the true status of these dead punks. They were a disgrace to the uniform they once wore, and they do not need to be mentioned in the same vain as the men and women, past and present, currently serving in uniform and are doing such an outstanding job.
    • LINDENBANNA UNITED STATES says:
So true, so why even clarify their tenure,,,,is it that the GDF has petty leadership, or would rather wait until you die to “OUT” their ex ranks.
  5. I AGREE WITH THE ARMY, WHEN A RANK IS FOUND TO BE DISHONEST AND UNRELIABLE HE NEEDS TO BE DISCIPLINE OR FIND HIS WAY OUT

So, what should happen when the constitutional rights of a people of a country are being trampled upon? Like those of eligible Guyanese voters living overseas, help to keep their families in Guyana stay alive through remittances, the barrel economy… and are denied the rights to vote for candidates of their choice at general elections in Guyana like was the case under the L. F. S. Burnham Administration. How about the security forces in Guyana (particularly the GDF) explaining how is it that the recently re-activated U. S. Fourth Fleet has to do the job of policing against certain illegal activities out of Guyana and other neighboring countries while the U. S. Courts do the prosecuting when this should be done at the national level. And, as far as the Guyana Police Force and certain Government offices are concerned - can you explain the rationale’ for the U. S. Visa restrictions some time ago and we are here talking about “disciplining” other folks.

would the gdf give the profile and the reason why a certain officer was cashiered from the army, this man was later implicated in a criminal organization that killed people, who opposed his organization, and also supplied weapons to know felons who he consorted with,or is it a gdf thing when person leave the army under a cloud they turn to nefarious activities, sandhurst first being the exception………awaiting reply not holding my breath though.
    • Arnold VENEZUELA says:
Don’t know about that “certain officer” what I do know is some of those slain were army incompetents/thieves who were kicked out.

let me tell you why i blame some officers in the gdf for their endings…..

      Chichester…..
was not so dicsipline but was very intelligent and was capable of learning anything in a matter of hours….his family got money but they never allowed him the priviliage of spending it foolishly. He would normally drive in the base (Ayanganna) with many expensive vehicles that were more expensive than many officers toyotas’ and they were jealous of this. One day an officer who was not so recently disciplined for the disappearance of a weapon, interrogated him asking where he was getting all these cars from. From then on they had their eyes on him and were waiting on a false move to kick him out!! The last time i saw him was just before i left to go to SandHurst in 2004……

      Gibson
was a cadet on a dog course…the things cadets go through on this course is so unreal that i cannot explain for security reasons (laughs) These days the course is so easy that a Cadet Fly can become an officer in the G.D.F (since the death of a certain cadet) Had the poilcies for tarining human beings severly altered from the begining of the cadet course #1 then we would have had many well rounded officers now in the G.D.F including Gibson…………not the ones who tortures!!

Yes my compatriot some of them have their heads so far up their a— an enema won’t flush it out. They fail to realise that the current inequalities in our country are the primary reasons for it’s current state. The Bible says unfaair measures bring curse. Our madministration of the day is a curse. Although I agree that in the event you cannot cope, flee instead of turning to violence. I was a victim of the inequalities & political harassment but they tried to make it look like I was a trouble-maker. If I were a different person, who knows I might have ended up dead too but praise JAH I could’ve left. How many of our brothers/sisters have that privilege!?!

Re: “[...oh yes before i leave, people claimed that they migrated because the hardships suffered under the PNC.from 1992 the rate of migration has increased specifically from the PPP support base who to blame, Desmond Hoyte or Burnham, Corbin i would like to know...]” Before you ask this question about “who to blame…” how about finding out from the U. S. Government how many people are living illegally in the United States with the total population of Guyana being an estimated 750,000 people; and, despite the assumed changes in Guyana over “the last 16 years” the world knows exactly what would have been the results were they no visa requirements by Guyanese for immigration to Europe and North America in particular. Have you never heard these words before - “They All Come To America”. ;-)

He never make the course at Sandhurst, was being kicked out for allegedly stealing a credit card from one of his squaddies, president Jagdeo begged for him to be sent back to Guyana rather than go to jail, when he came back to Guyana he was jointly charged with Oliver Hinckson for weapons possesion, his name is Dorian Massay, the man who disgraced the GDF,mackydog expose him once on these blogs.
  23. SandHurst First GUYANA says:
hmmmpppp, something sounds totally wrong here, sounds like you got the entire episode twisted red man….you and macky dog are probably drinking the same soup. i never recalled any president begging for me? in fact i never had any interactions with any president while i was there in the U.K…….I fed up explaining my story on this blogs, these days it makes no sense….everyone who knows the truth knows already and i have nothing to prove to anyone. what i want you to tell me red man, is which year, day, month, hour, minute and second i was charged with weapon possession with anyone and i will tell the bloggers a bit about you.

Re: “they should give a report about sandhurst too……” How about reports on when the Venezuelans will cease their occupation of Guyana’s half of Ankoko, the Air Wing of the GDF will have adequate aeronautical capacity and capability (not about second-hand helicopters that cannot fly - whether day or night) and Officers and Men of GDF will be so trained and that they are capable of offering the security and safety needed needed by oil exploration companies operating in Guyana’s territorial waters unlike what happened in an incident that occurred off the Corentyne River between Guyana and Suriname a few years ago. Why pick on one little guy like “Sandhurst First”. And, don’t ya wanna know about “Operation Cobra” or “Operation Greenheart (when the GDF was really the GDF)”! 8-)

Re: “Burnham created the GDF to keep him in power, not to keep invaders out”. Yeah right, try denying Americans to bear arms under our constitution and see how far you will get with your silly belief that the establishment of the GDF was not in keeping with that country’s constitution. And, were it not for the GDF and the external assistance they could have counted on a certain General whose last begins with “G” around the time of the Falklands’ conflict then the Venoes may have been at the Demerara River; and, earlier the Surinamese may have been at the Berbice River.

Politics is politics; and, professional soldiering is professional soldiering and the two do not mix.

    Just my military scientific $0.02.

  30. Kaieteur Gold UNITED STATES says:

Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the British (Foreign) Military Intelligence (MI6) Too bad you are not yet aware that the descendants of the Women’s Auxiliary walk “Five Paces Ahead” (like their ancestors did prior to 1964) and joined with the President-elect Obama folks in singing “We Can Do It” and “They Did”! You keep watching out for the “change” - it is inevitable. Also, how come you did not end up living in Havana or Moscow? :-D :-D :-D !
  36. LINDENBANNA UNITED STATES says:
The GDF and the GPF are “supposed” to be professional and responsible organizations, and as such should ACT like it.
