Breaking News - Police say “Fineman”, “Skinny” killed
Commander of `A’ Division Welton Trotz this afternoon said that two of the country’s most wanted men, Rondell `Fineman’ Rawlins and Jermaine `Skinny’ Charles were shot and killed by members of the joint services on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
Asked how the positive identifications were made, he said that they knew the men from their general appearance.
“We know them. They can’t hide”, he told this newspaper.
The men, who were reportedly part of a gang, were fatally wounded during a confrontation with the law enforcement ranks which began late Wednesday night, in a bushy area behind the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri. During that first confrontation, Shawn Grant, 31 of Eccles, East Bank Demerara was killed and a soldier was injured.

After the Christmas Falls incident I was confident that Fineman’s days were numbered - http://www.guyanatabloid.com. For the Security Forces to pursue him at Christmas Falls, they had to be following intelligence. Who is Shawn Grant, a bystander or so? In reply to the above comment on August 29th, 2008 1:17 am:I think what she means is that there is no concrete proof that it is fine man, until they have concrete proof, other than we know what they look like people would still be wondering if it is indeed fineman and cohort. he has been so elusive up to this point that nothing less than concrete proof would do. if he is indeed dead it would just be another waste of life, and hopefully the end to a tragic story, but we know better than that, for the hurt and everything else that goes along with such tragedy does not easily go away the country has been tormented by these individuals for so long that it will take time to get them out of our psyche.
I have been reading for a long time but not really putting my two cents in. sometimes I like reading the comments better than the news, it’s all so entertaining in a sad sort of way.

Just last week I wrote an article urging the bloggers and others to be patience and give the Joint Service some more time which have paid off in the short run. Those of us who are supporter of the Police and thier efforts must now be brave and be ready to confront those who are going to cry foul on behalf of these criminals. The reward money promised for the capture of these two individuals must now be shared between the members of this Joint Service operation and more importantly their identies protected from the public at large. on August 28th, 2008 9:20 pmIt is indeed a sad day for Guyana when so many bloggers could praise the JS for a job well done for killing two wanted men. Any normal civilised society would have sought to bring these men before the courts, present the relevant evidence, and allow the rule of law to prevail.
Unfortunately, our Govt has set this precedent and then proceeded to repeat it so often that it has now become an acceptable way of dealing with criminals. Lest some ignaramus thinks that I am on the side of the criminals, as is the wont of many in our society, let me quickly posit that I am not. I maintain that violence breeds violence, and that is why Guyana is such a violent society.
There will be many more ‘Skinny’ and ‘Fineman’ to come until such time that our authorities awake from their corrupt slumber and realise that crime is a direct offspring of poverty, feelings of neglect and impotence, unemployment, hopelessness, broken homes, marginalisation, stigmatisation e.g.being a Buxtonian, etc, etc.
All of you bloggers who think that by killing ‘Fineman’ and Skinny will put any dent in our crime situation, will be sadly disappointed. Remember “Blackie’ and the Escapees to name a few. They were similarly gunned down by the JS years ago.
Do you see any difference in our crime situation today?

I guess you live in North America where you think its the best place in the world, and according to you there is no violence and crime.
Are you still sleeping or what? What are the JS suppose to do when they are fired at, come out with their hands in the air and be killed. Policemen in North America never shoot and killed criminals when being shot at?
Wake up man and stop blaming the Government, JS and we the writers who praise the Govt. and JS for a job well done.
Quote by you– Crime is a direct offspring of proverty. So why is there crime in North America.

I am sure that when his mother gave birth to him she did not see him as a criminal in her arms, so what harm would there be to have a mother bury her child as hard as that may be for a parent to bury a child, especialy under these circumstances. If it is indeed fine man, do you expect his family to breath life into him and have him rise up. why should she have to suffer again, has she not suffered enough with the rest of us?

In reply to the above comment on August 29th, 2008 10:05 am:Fulleyes,
Mother have closure? Everything was alleged? You must be a comedian cause you got me laughing here! Lemme explain something to you, when a man is given a bad name he usually clears it up. If rondell rawlins was innocent, he would have come out and say that he is innocent and never committed any of those murders. But wait! The man was a prison escapee! Remember about that? As for his mother, I just wonder how much money she got in her bank account. That’s all I’m saying about that.
Evadne:
Nope, no one expects his family to breathe life into him, but this was a man who murdered innocent babies in their sleep. A man who chopped a woman across the chest while she fed her baby. A man who slaughtered innocent men right in their homes. Evadne, who are you people? Seriously, are you human? As for me being human and civilized; if I typed what I wanted to, stabroek news would delete it, so I’m trying my best to be civil. Oh, btw, the post I typed above was edited by the moderator so you didn’t get to see exactly what I had typed.
Evadne
In reply to the above comment on August 30th, 2008 1:11 am:And I suppose that you must believe that the mother is wholehartedly responsible for all of finemans atrocities? Look I am not in anyway condoning what he did, I saw the pictures that were splashed across the newspaper and i could not stomach ave nor understand how someone can be so heartless, and if this is indeed fineman I would have to think that the world is a better place without him in it. However this does not have anything to do with his mother being able to bury him. And that was what i was talking about. i am not sure if you can understand where I am coming from. I can understand if you do not want to see anyone grieve for such a person, but to someone out there he might have some flicker of goodness even if it was only for the brief moment of his birth, which is why his mom should be able to bury him.
please reply . And try to do it in a way where you would not have the moderator delete your message.

I realy do think that whole thing was a sham , some of the crimes possible was not even commited by those chaps but they got the blame for it , for instance the lindo mining sittuation ,they did not want them alive then the truth would’ve been reveal and i am sure they could not have afforded that…. Now while some are sending congrats to the security forces and celebrating the death of the wanted criminals we must be cognizant of the root causes of crime & criminality in guyana but more over in the caribbean socities proverty, unemployment, hopelessness, etc. Until the nations of the caribbean are serious on bringing about real change then we’ll have many more “Fineman” Rawlins’s.

on August 29th, 2008 2:19 amink09, you are right. Well hope the GDF got the right set of people. I am confident they did if not 3 more down the drain. I dont think those guys will get any money who shot and killed him because they are in the force. Does anyone knows about that? I am pretty sure they would not pay them. After all when the US Military kills those people with rewards on their heads the service member does not get anything, Good job fellas!!!!

But for them I don’t feel sorry since they killed many innocent people.

on August 29th, 2008 6:52 amI don’t want to be caught up in the euphoria of this moment. Yes Guyanese have a lot to celebrate in the deaths of these men. They murdered immensely. They apparently had no respect for human life. They threatened the ordinariness of people simply going about their daily business of living. So with them being gone, there’s a lot to celebrate, right? Not so fast.
What made the peace loving, “most hospitable people in the Caribbean”, industrious, to my mind, the best people in the world, produce people capable of such death and destruction? I believe that this is the question that will need to be answered before we get caught up in the celebrations. Otherwise, out there is someone that will simply take their place. This is still the top grass we cut. We still got to get to the root.

In reply to the above comment on August 29th, 2008 11:10 am:So true, so true. I, like a few others have mixed feelings. I’m glad that many Guyanese at home will sleep restfully, but for just a time, just for a time.
But like it or not, unless we get to the root of the canker, there are many waiting in the wings… Others have already put it more eloquently

on August 29th, 2008 6:57 amCongratulations . A job well done.I know they do not pay the joint services well,
but why must they get a cash reward for doing their job.Is this some form of bribery .Somebody please explain this to me. There are different forms of reward
that must be given to the members who did a fine job. How about a promotion etc.Guyana have to stop passing the buck.Once again congratulations in bringing these notorious bandits to an end.Now we have to solve the problem of “WHO KILLED THE MINERS”.

on September 3rd, 2008 7:06 amPictures showing woman collapsed on road , well let me tell u woman, think about all those families fineman and skinny and the rest of their gangs killed, think of the children who did not have the opportunity to enjoy life, fineman, skinny and the rest created mayhem in Guyana, they were taken down or took their own lives for crimes they committed, innocent lives were taken by him and the others, those citizens and their children did nothing wrong to fineman, skinny and the gangs, u should be ashamed to be throwing yourself on the road crying, all of fineman, skinny and the rest of gangs families has more to cry 4, it has now begun, prepare yourself for more burials, at least u have the time 4 that, the innocent ones lives that they took, had no time, their blood, tears were on fineman, skinny and the rest, the heat is now on, they would be found, DEAD OR ALIVE, they acted unconcerned, now it’s going to be the wild, wild west 4 them. GPF do the job, take in all their families and friends for questioning, they knew all the while where their criminal families were hiding, kept their mouths shut. All u who knew would pay, it was just a matter of time, if the rest of gangs has any sense, they should turn themselves in now, or face the same faith. whether fineman, skinny or the rest killed themselves or the GPF did it, it’s no concern of mine, sometimes u take them in alive and they get away, just like skinny, throught the floor boards, there’s no need for questioning, because most would be lies anyway, the GPF don’t need to question the rest, they would be found, TRUST ME!.
