Chinese injured in industrial accident recovering

Two of the four Chinese nationals injured in an accident at the Eccles Industrial Site on Tuesday night are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital after undergoing surgery while the other two are in the accident ward.

Song Wei Wei and Shen Pei He are in the ICU of the medical institution in a serious but stable condition, a manager with the store to which they were attached told Stabroek News. The other two, Yong Wei and Shei Fei are also hospitalized but in the accident ward.

The accident occurred around 9.30 pm on Tuesday at the Long Hi Industry factory at the Eccles Industrial Site. The manager related that the men were unloading a container filled with 6 mm glass when 40 pieces of the glass fell on them. Upon impact, the glass broke cutting the men about their bodies. Persons in the vicinity rushed them to the hospital where they were treated and admitted. Some of their injuries were said to be quite severe and Wei and He required surgery, as they had gaping cuts about their bodies.

Two other persons had also sustained cuts and were treated at the hospital yesterday and sent away.

This newspaper was told that Long Hi Industry manufactures glass doors and windows among other items.

The manager praised the hospital staff for looking after the men promptly on Tuesday night.
