In reply to the above comment on September 2nd, 2008 9:05 pm:Carl,
So many times I say to have the criminals in the police force who take bribe and free prisoners like Skinny and Fineman and the others to be locked up just like the other criminals in jail. Without these crooks, crime will be less. I don’t like the police, but when they do a good job (Skinny/Fineman) I say kudos, but when they thief, do drugs or else, I say jail them. Fair is fair.

on September 2nd, 2008 9:46 amthey must thief and take bribe, because they work hard, and for long hours, not being paid overtime, get paid next to nothing, they have families to maintain, and the cost of living is very high. not condoning, but the authorities need to take the curren situation into consideration. they thief and take bribe too, just that they are not easily caught. and when caught, the matter has to go to the DPP, who comes up with NO CHARGES. THAT IS GT NOW.

on September 2nd, 2008 9:54 amit comes back to the very issues we have talked about on this blogg,
pay the police officers a decent salary and retrain them every 4 months about what their responsibilities are to the public, airline pilots have to be retrain every 6 months and their health check also, the same must be for all police officers in guyana PERIOD..

MACK
on September 2nd, 2008 6:01 pmEveryone in Guyana is being paid low wages. Does this mean they should start taking bribes and ripping off customers? It is a shame that public servants don’t have the pride of the service they represent. Police in Guyana use their power to take advantage of the people. Bad Government workers need to be weeded out of the system. We need to educate Guyanese, that they should respect themselves and the laws of the country. This seems to be missing in their daily lives.

on September 3rd, 2008 5:47 am……. the crux of the matter is ,,all here,, and in GY,, that is grumbling abt how the pay is not adequate for a crime free suvival ,, should first be realising that this govt: is paying back the two billion that many who are in the ABC lands now ,, left with suitcases loaded ! how much were they making during the “regal reign ? ” i see no reason to blame the PPP ,, every one is being paid according to the budget of the govt: and the ignominous behavior of the police is not anything new to any one ,, that was happeninglong ,,, long b4 the PPP was given the mandate to manage the peoples business ,,
ask urself this ,, since the govt: of the pnc was “removed ” and “replaced” by a democratic leadership ,, how much have been “restored ” since in the face of all the destabilisation ,, many still have jobs ,, and there are many who work for the same wages/salary ,, but find it disgraceful to engage in the nefarios activities of these ,, maladjusted ,, malcontented,, misguided miscreants !,, to which those in the pnc ,, condone and without any fore thought that it is all their doing that is the bone of contention abt the inability to survive on what their take home pay ammounts to !……………
talk is the cheapest commodity on the planet ,, go figure !…….

on September 6th, 2008 1:43 pmI know people who left Gov’t jobs(public servants, police ranks, army ranks) at home in Guyana to seek out greener pastures and I don’t really blame them.To them working under these corrupt authorities will only give them a bad image. To get rid of the rotten apples one has to start looking from the top and go down the ladder but then people can get victimised or killed with no recourse, hence one would rather flee then be killed or victmised. If those in authority don’t improve it won’t get better.
