Kwakwani man remanded over carnal knowledge
A twenty-three-year-old man who allegedly had carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 15 years was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Anthony Melville of Kwakwani Waterfront was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Melville’s lawyer applied for bail on his behalf on the grounds that the Kwakwani Magistrate’s Court has sittings once every two months which meant that his client could be incarcerated for a while until his court date.
However, the prosecution objected to the bail request stating that Melville was a regular visitor to the young girl’s home and after he had committed the act he allegedly threatened to kill her.
Magistrate Robertson-Ogle then ordered that Melville be remanded to prison and that he appear again in court on October 17.

In reply to the above comment on October 8th, 2008 10:59 am:MEN ALL OVER THE WORLD NEED TO STOP PREYING ON YOUNG CHILDREN AND PARENTS ESPECIALLY MOTHERS NEED TO POLICE AND EDUCATE THEIR CHILDREN MORE EFFECTIVELY TO PREVENT SUCH ABUSES FROM OCCURING. THE STATE CAN ALSO DO MORE TO PROTECT CHILDREN BY ENACTING LEGISLATION THAT WILL PAVE THE WAY FOR HARSHER SENTENCES FOR PAEDOPHILES.

on October 8th, 2008 4:37 pmChildren are not to be abused! Should anyone be abused? When is abusing someone acceptable? Abuse of any person regardless of age, gender or ethnicity should be condemned. We ought not to condemn one and overlook the other. This gives the wrong impression. It seems we have grown to be a society in which we hold each other with so much contempt that we do not think twice or too long to do outrageous things to each other. I read the national newspapers each day and am disgusted by what we do to each other, most often for trifling issues. Life seems not to be awarded any value these days.

on October 8th, 2008 4:48 pmSO MANY SICK PERVERTS ARE IN THE SOCIETY AND EVEN VISIT OUR HOMES. WHAT CAN WE DO BUT TELL OUR YOUNG CHILDREN WHAT TO DO WHEN FACED WITH A SITUATION SUCH AS THIS. IT MAKES ME SAD TO READ NEWS LIKE THIS WHEN AN INNOCENT CHILD HAVE TO GO THROUGH SOMETHING SO TRUMATIC . I HOPE THE FAMILY OF THE CHILD GET HER COUNCELLING .

on October 9th, 2008 2:22 amTwelve strokes with the CAT! Six upon starting his sentence and six when released. The first six strokes should cause him to reflect on his depraved attitude and the last six when leaving is to remind him not to become a repeat offender. The judge should also sentence him to the equivalent of the victim’s age.

on October 13th, 2008 12:11 pmThe Public always seems to come down on young men when it seems that the broke the law. Especially in a case if carnal knowledge of a minor. Its not all their fault. Take a second look at the young women of today’s society. Even in uniform it’s hard to tell their age , because of their attitude and code of dress, Then after all is done, the parents cry rape, More investigation is usually needed before these cases should be brought to court.
