Youth remanded over cutlass attack on mother

An 18-year-old man was yesterday remanded when he appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle accused of unlawfully and maliciously wounding his mother.

It is alleged that Dmatayo Laddell of Section ‘C’ Christianburg, Wismar, Linden maliciously assaulted his mother Michelle Rutherford, 40, causing her actual bodily harm on September 3. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him by the magistrate.

The mother of three, who was almost chopped to death by her son, remains a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Yesterday when Stabroek News visited the woman at the hospital she related that she was feeling sporadic pains. She explained that she was still in shock over what transpired since nothing of the sort ever happened before.

Rutherford had been cooking lunch when her son who lives next door visited. She said that he looked at her strangely, hollering “you see wha you do, I gaffa kill you.” He then reportedly pulled a cutlass out and began chopping her. She sustained chops wounds to her right hand and her head.

Torbo, drug use is a choice and we should be sorry for the mom, not the idiot who chose to use drugs and mess up his head.

This is so sad to hear a mother attacked by her own son, this is quite shocking to know that he nearly killed his mom. Do he have a mental problem if so he needs to be treated by the experts. Jailing him won’t solve his mental problem if he is mentally challenged.

If this fellow can chop his Mother ,he can butcher any body , put him away . He is a threat to society. The great USA is trying to put a stop to drugs , they ‘re still trying and we expect the government of guyana to put an end to theirs.

These are now,::”in the days of our lives” :

Luke Gospel, chapter 23 verses 28-31

Oh my God our Almighty, where have you gone ?
come back into this world to see what is going on.
Come back Oh my God, to see no more good but bad
come back Oh heavenly father, I pray to you Oh God

It is not like yesterday, when You were here shortly to stay
It is bad to worse now, where humans are all going astray
There are no more love amongst humans, as of yesterday
It is so worse now than ever before, especially of today

Humans are eating humans for their daily meals each day
roasting them one by one in fiery furnaces all on their way
No more peace here on mother’s earth, no one can truely say
“oh-yes” no one can anymore, so to say that ” I am here to stay”

Parents are dining on children and children are eating parents
Our manna to which you have sustained to us is now a detent
No more healthy meals in our diets as our forests are destroying
Pollutions are now on our table and we are gravely diminishing.

Does anyone know why this happened? We blame this guy, but we have no idea why he did what he did. Mother or not…..she could have done something that prompted his anger. I do not condone taking a cutlass to anyone, but he may have been pushed to the edge and reacted in a very violent manner. Again, if he lashed out at his mother like this, can you imagine what he could do to a stranger?

Isn’t this the same thing they did with the young man that burned the GPH? Putting these people in jail is not the answer. They clearly are in need of psycological help.

Mental evaluation? Maybe. Maybe not. We don’t know why or what really caused him to do this. I hope she recovers and doesn’t die at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

I’m very sad to hear about this whole situation. I have a son, (24 Years) and sometimes he acts out in a very aggressive manner. I’m afraid maybe he can get at such a stage that he looses his mind and do something like that, too. (He drinks and smokes “joints” a lot. With such a combination, it’s very dangerous.

Greetings from Joan , in Holland. I wish the mother all the best and hope that she recover, ASAP.

Joan….When was the last time you heard someone that smoked marajuana went on a a rampage…I suspect the alcohol has something to do with the violence. I went to college with quite a few ‘potheads’ and they were the mellowest people around. By the way, I do not condone smoking any type of wacky tabacky etc, but I am just saying that smoking a blunt usually leads to sleep and not crazy violent outbursts…Now Crack, Cocaine , LSD etc can have those effects.
