Kwebana gets $6.8M grant for citrus farm

Kfw Small Grants Projects recently awarded Kwebana Village a $6.8M grant to buy equipment and other materials for citrus farming.

According to a press release from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the German Government grant will promote more sustainable citrus farming in the Amerindian village and reduce the rate of forest clearing for new farms. About 20 hectares (50 acres) of land will be developed which will support 100 households in the North West District. Citrus crops such as oranges, lemons, limes and tangerines are expected to be the primary crops cultivated while cherries and avocadoes will also be grown.

The German govt was very generous in making grants, hope that the Kwebana community will show an example, so more loans/grants can be given to other Amerindian communities.

Great news! This is a wise move by the Germans to assist communities with traditions of self-help and cooperative work for the common good. Now, keep the government’s micro-managing and corrupt nose out of this, and the coastlanders at a distance and I am certain this will be money well spent.
