Land of Canaan accident victim still unconscious
Priya Ali, the child who was injured in the three-vehicle smash-up at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara on Sunday night, is still fighting for her life as she lies unconscious in her Intensive Care Unit (ICU) bed at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
The child has been unconscious since the accident and doctors have reported that she is critical. A brain scan taken late Sunday night revealed that Priya’s brain was swelling. Yesterday when this newspaper visited the hospital the child’s state had still not improved and her family’s state of distress had worsened.
Priya suffered broken hips, left shoulder and injuries to her legs. Chetram Chabiram, the child’s father, had said the family has shied away from thinking negatively and are praying for Priya who is the younger of his two children.
A police press release said Jason Martin lost control of the vehicle he was driving, which was allegedly going at a fast rate, resulting in the collision with Priya and her relatives.
The accident at Land of Canaan on Sunday night resulted in the deaths of five young men from Plaisance, East Coast Demerara. Dead are Jason and Julian Martin, Colin Fredericks, Ezra Ferguson, and Royston Dempster.
