Lindo Creek probe…
Text from the ‘grave’ exposed phone use
A text message from the deceased Dax Arokium’s cellular phone was what alerted his family that the phone he had with him when he died at Lindo Creek was in use.
“Please put $200 in my phone, baby,” was the message a female friend of the man received on July 4, weeks after the burnt remains of Dax and seven other miners were found at Lindo Creek by his father, Leonard Arokium.
It is believed that the text was sent by Dax but that he lost signal before it was transmitted. When the phone was activated in a signal area again, the text, which would have been pending was automatically transmitted and to the young woman’s phone.
Speaking to Stabroek News yesterday the young woman, who prefers to remain anonymous, said she was in downtown Georgetown when she received the message on July 4. She said initially she did not know who it was from as Dax had two phones, one of which was very new and she was not familiar with the number. She said she immediately dialled the number, but while someone pressed the answer button no one answered and she only heard noise in the background before the phone went off. She said she redialled the number but the phone was apparently turned off.
The young woman said it was about a week or two later as she was going through her phone that she came across the text again and suspected that it may have come from Dax’s phone. She said she immediately called the young man’s brother, who confirmed that the number was for a phone Dax had had in his possession.
She said she then dialled the number again and this time someone answered and said: “Soldier man ent deh and he lef he phone home,” and hung up. However, this time, someone called her back immediately after and asked her who she was trying to get in contact with. She said she informed the person that she had received a text from the number and she wanted to know who had sent it.
According to the young woman, someone then told her it was a soldier’s phone and that he was not around. Soon after, she said, another voice was heard on the phone, which sounded like a child’s, and told her that he had found the phone in an alleyway in Christianburg, Linden. Even before the child had finished speaking, she added, a woman took the phone and attempted to explain where her “nephew” had found the phone.
She said she explained that the phone belonged to someone she knew and the woman then asked her if she wanted the phone. She said the woman told her that when her nephew found the phone it was “battered” and two of the buttons were missing, but he decided to remove the SIM card and use it.
“I ask her why he would do that, because when people find phone they don’t use the SIM they take that out and throw it away and use the phone. But she couldn’t answer she just ask me if I want the phone I tell she yes and she say ‘hold on.’ I hold on for a while and then she come on back and say she nephew say he throw away the phone and he ent know where he throw it.”
That was the last time the young woman made contact with anyone on the phone, but by this time Dax’s relatives, including his father, had been alerted.
The man’s relatives are convinced the phone was on his person at the time of his death as he had called a friend from Kwakwani on June 5 or 6, just before he went into the backdam.
`Flexpack’
Meanwhile, his father Leonard Arokium has produced the ‘Flexpack’ he received from the Digicel outlet at Parbhu’s General Store in Parika, which gives the customer all the information about the phone.
Arokium showed Stabroek News a document, which indicated that the phone with the number 592-674-9643 was purchased on May 15.
The phone evoked interest after Arokium’s lawyer revealed that calls had been mysteriously made on it in August this year.
On Saturday, the police said that based on information they had received from the telephone company the cellular phone which Arokium said his son Dax had on his person was registered to a female.
However, Arokium said, because his passport had expired he had asked one of the salesgirls in the store to use her identification card to purchase the phone. He said that was the reason the phone was registered in the name of a female.
The police said they have since arrested three persons who might have knowledge “of a cell phone with a SIM card of a similar number” and they were being questioned. There has been no further information from the police on this probe.
Arokium said on Monday that he has since given a statement to the police and showed them the ‘Flexpack’.
How the phone came to be in possession of persons living in Linden will now have to be answered.
Clifton Wong, Nigel Torres, Cecil Arokium, Compton Speirs, Bonny Harry, Horace Drakes, Dax Arokium, and Lancelot Lee were slaughtered at the Lindo Creek mine and their remains burnt sometime after June 6. Leonard Arokium discovered their burnt remains on June 21.

on October 8th, 2008 8:13 amIt does not take a scholar to determine. Arokium is adamant that the soldiers killed the miners and the use of Dax’s phone by a soldier and/or his family only points in one direction. Let them explain how they came to be in possession of Dax’s cell phone. C’mon police do you need a magnifying glasses? Even Ray Charles (RIP) can see this one.

on October 8th, 2008 8:54 amEvileyes, I think the reason Mr. Arokium refused to go to the police was because after he made his analyses, as one very familiar with the terrain he could only come to one conclusion, the JS killed those men. He explained how illogical & risky it would be for Fineman’s gang to have returned to his camp to kill his people. That therefore only left one set of poeple, the JS. He also showed by use of a map that the GDF had a camp nearby & it would be tantamount to suicide for Fineman & possee to go there especially after reaching the Christmas Falls area. That meant only the JS, or the Bounty Hunters/Phantom could’ve gone there & successfully killed those miners. It’s plain to see based on the evidence we have that he was/is right all along. The blind could see that someone’s covering up for somebody(ies) because it will blow their evil activities.
Jah protect Mr Arokium & family & may the truth flow forth like the mighty Kaieteur.

In reply to the above comment on October 8th, 2008 12:26 pm:The area was combed & you know what was discovered . . . according to OUR ‘law enforcement’ investigations!?!?!? They were related to Fineman’s gang . . not surprising. If you’re literate & I KNOW you are you would’ve read on more than one occasion that ballistic results are readily available for certain crimes while others take more than a lifetime to be found. If I want to place you at the scene of the crime I will take anything belonging to you to that scene or I plant things from the scene on you.
Lemme give you a hint on how our “LAW enforcement” works.
I was going home about 12:30 A.M. after going out to WORK on a HOLIDAY to improve a certain sector of our country. On my way home after dropping a few executives to their respective hotels, homes etc I was confronted by the “law enforcement officers” who apparently had a stake out in my neighbourhood. I usually reverse & park in front of my home because my dogs jumped up on my car scratching it & setting off the alarm. To reverse from the street corner to my home in a country st. approx. 200 mt. an officer stopped me tellin me that I had removed my seat belt. At that time of the morning & knowing that they were not doing traffic duty in a country cross st. I told them I was going home after a very hard days work & unless they really had motive for stopping me then they could shoot me as I drove away. They came running weapons cocked after my car & on realising that I had opened my gate & let ALL my dogs out they retreated. The following morning my neighbour, a HIGH RANKING GFS officer told me that it was good that I moved off & left the scene when I did since one of the “LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS” went to the foolice pick-up truck got a package out & was about to slip it into my car through the window on my blind side as I was in verbal altercation with his cohorts on the other side.
That’s how it works.

on October 8th, 2008 10:34 amHmmmm….well, I cannot tell you who killed those men but I sure do know that they were killed by some one or something and it will soon come out. I think though that the female who received the text, Mr. Arokium and his lawyers or investigators should have dealt with this discovery of the use of the mobile very discreetly, they should have follow the leads to get more inside of the story of how these folks were able to get hold of the dead man’s phone. They should have prolong the contacts a bit longer, improvise a way of getting names, addresses, etc from this woman and child who was using the dead man’s phone, in that way they would have been able to get solid information on who this “Soldier” man is that left the phone home. Because, have you read what transpired in the conversation, one person said that ‘Soldier’ man left his phone home, then a child came on afterwards and said he found the phone in some alley, then a woman came on and give her story. So a smart investigator would have lead on the contacts, maybe send the credit, get close to the person so as to get solid information on the case. Then when solid information and evidence are gathered you move in with the police. This is called under cover investigations. Now the persons who using the phone will not want to use it again because they now know that the phone is under investigation. To what i read in the story above, there is a lot more to only the youth or the woman using that phone. This calls for very smart investigations. But keep digging Mr. A and others, you soon will bounce into the whole truth and nothing but the truth will surface, dont give up no matter how long it takes. And Mr. A. if you believe in God, pray to Him and He will give you direction where and who to go to get the truth, it will come out, it will come out……….

It’s time for closure Mr. Green, get your lazy detectives out there in the field to investigate this matter properly, or maybe you have to put up $50,000.00 for them to share it again, before the killers are found and killed to share the kitty, no more taxpayers monies, they r being paid to do a job and do it properly or resign.

on October 8th, 2008 12:45 pmI don’t have enough faith to believe that it’s a coincidence that the current “owner” of the phone goes by the name “soldier man”.
Can anyone imagine what it would have been like if Mr. Arokium did not have the financial resources to conduct his own investigation, and was simply relying on the GPF to solve this case?
Being a Land Surveyor was also an advantage as he was able to use his knowledge maps, as well as that of the area to query whether it was feasible for Fine man to eliminate his men given the proximity of the JS.
May God help us all.

on October 8th, 2008 2:06 pmWhat is the possibility of a soldier or a relative of a soldier finding a cell phone alleged to have been used by a murder victim and whose relatives suspect was killed by the miltary? The authorities should have had people in handcuffs already.

on October 8th, 2008 2:06 pmLets wait and see what comes out of the police investigation. It seems like everyone whats to be in CSI. It could be simple as someone found a phone and wanted to make some free phone call. How stupid can you be, to be involve in killing someone and making call with their phone to friends and family.
