Letters to the Editor

‘What strange creatures human beings are’

Dear Editor, There can be no more fitting expression than the one used in your editorial of Jan 20 to describe the actions of former Haitian dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier’s return to his homeland – a country  weighed down in unending and untold sufferings.

Where is the evidence?

Dear Editor, Emile Mervin’s missive titled ‘We need leaders who can point us to the way of unity and prosperity’ published in the SN on January 30, again exposes the shortsightedness of Mr Ramjattan’s Bath Settlement call.

Ramkarran is a man for all the people

Dear Editor, I have been following with great interest, the profiles of persons entering the race at this year’s general elections to be the next president of Guyana, and I think attorney-at-law, Ralph Ramkarran is the most suitable candidate.

Achievements

Dear Editor, The Minister of Labour has been kind enough to give us a comprehensive list of the former PNC finance minister’s performance while in office.

Youth should be the agent of change

Dear Editor, Noha Tarek, an Egyptian graduate student studying political science proclaimed to a BBC reporter that she was participating in Egypt’s pro-democracy rallies for greater prosperity, peace and freedom even if her participation resulted in her death.

Questions about registration in the Barama River

Dear Editor, I would like to bring to the attention of the Guyanese public that after doing a fan-out exercise on behalf of the Alliance for Change, I found that many young people who ought to be voting for the first time are not registered.

‘Optimal levels’?

Dear Editor, I refer to your front page of February 1, where the main one on the left declares for all to see “Law and order at ‘optimal level.’”
