Dear Editor, The news that the Guyana Fire Service has had to condemn and deem as a public hazard Guyana’s most famous and picturesque nineteenth-century Gothic Revival building, the City Hall of Georgetown would have been funny if it weren’t so sad.

Dear Editor, May I please take up some space within your august journal in order to make some cogent expressions regarding certain eventualities within the Guyanese diaspora? 

Dear Editor, I had a chance to examine the ‘evidence of racial discrimination in government hiring practices’ as presented by GHK Lall in a letter in Stabroek News `There could only be one reason behind the dismissal of these two senior Gold Board employees’ (June 6th, 2021) and have found that of the two cases outlined do not pass muster.

Dear Editor, During the past week, I became aware of two teenagers whose lives were cut short by suicide. 

Dear Editor, Global policy makers failed to heed warnings that the threat of a pandemic is always present resulting in our current dilemma; the re-emergence of a Coronavirus was predicted after two prior Coronavirus outbreaks (SARS -2003, MERS – 2012) and, given the notorious mutation rate of the influenza virus, an influenza pandemic is always a possibility.

Dear Editor,  I’ll be grateful if this letter to the public and whomever it reaches can be used to shine a light on yet another forgotten small community named Blankenburg on the West Coast of Demerara.

Dear Editor,  Thank you for the article in yesterday’s Sunday Stabroek on page 20 `Wildlife Commission urges against harming wild animals displaced by floods’.

Dear Editor, In a recent community open conversation on Mental Health, a high school student spoke of the difficulty of dealing with virtual schooling, and of dealing with the frustration of teachers and others who found it difficult in the pandemic.

Dear Editor, The recent fire at the National Psychiatric Hospital in New Amsterdam, Berbice raises serious questions. 

Dear Editor, Language matters. Psychiatric patients are not ‘inmates’. Thus, they do not ‘escape’, but are ‘missing’.

Dear Editor, Our policymakers need to intelligently revisit our housing drive/policy with the goal of creating vibrant, livable or ‘smart’ communities that offer diverse economic opportunities to all citizens while attracting innovative businesses and workers.
