Dear Editor, There must be a solution to our governance problem.

Dear Editor, Professor Clive Thomas has a deserved reputation as an outstanding economist, particularly in sugar and monetary economics, a champion for bread and justice, for human rights and for free and fair elections.

Dear Editor, The decision by Appeal Court Justices Chancellor (ag) Carl Singh (ret’d) and Justice BS Roy, with Chief Justice (ag) Yonette Cummings-Edwards dissenting, to uphold retired Chief Justice (ag) Ian Chang’s ruling that Bharrat Jagdeo can run for a third term, despite the Guyana Constitution’s requirement to the contrary, must spark a spirited debate about and acquaintance with this instrument , including through the education system.

Dear Editor, The souls of our ancestors cry from the hallowed grounds of the sugar estates for common sense; the sugar estates in large part constitute Guyana’s history insofar as it has been written.

Dear Editor, We have respectfully submitted a petition on the removal of the 14% VAT tax on private education to the government.

Dear Editor, The legal immunities which the executive president of Guyana enjoys, is regularly, recklessly and unwittingly invoked in political quarters whenever it is expedient and convenient to do so.

Dear Editor, The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) televises an advertisement (I am sure they do it proudly) which says “We don’t just report a story, we live it.”

Dear Editor, The Court of Appeal decision to uphold the former Chief Justice Ian Chang’s ruling that the two-term presidential limit is unconstitutional, should not be seen as a chance for Mr Jagdeo to seek more than two terms as President of Guyana.

Dear Editor, The news article ‘Third term case for CCJ’ (SN, February 23), may be the only ray of hope for Guyanese who lived through the Forbes Burnham and Bharrat Jagdeo eras and understand what it means to endure presidencies fraught with dictatorial propensities.
