Test on edge after Mayers double strike stalls Sri Lanka

NORTH SOUND, Antigua, CMC – Kyle Mayers earned his first Test wickets when he produced two critical strikes in as many overs to break a dangerous, record century stand, as he hauled West Indies back into the opening Test after half-centuries from Oshada Fernando and Lahiru Thirimanne threatened to put Sri Lanka in the ascendancy here yesterday.

The burly batsman played an audacious innings of 60 not out from 79 balls with nine fours and two sixes, adding 90 invaluable runs for the eighth wicket with wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva who made 46.
Cornwall is still there and will resume today’s third day looking for three figures and at the same time extending the West Indies’ 99-run lead into something more substantial.

NORTH SOUND, Antigua, CMC – Towering all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall lashed his maiden Test half-century to headline a late order rally, as West Indies carved out a near hundred-run lead over Sri Lanka at the close of day two of the opening Test here yesterday.
