Defacement

As was reported in The Scene in our edition yesterday, two of Aubrey Williams’s five murals which face the tarmac at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, have been mutilated in order to accommodate the design imperatives of the restructured terminal.

Lethem businesswoman robbed by armed Brazilian gunmen

A Lethem businesswoman was on Friday evening robbed of money and over $300,000 in jewellery by three armed men who are believed to be Brazilians and a photograph left behind by one of the men has been positively identified by Brazilian police as that of a known criminal who is wanted for a series of murders and armed robberies in that country.

Venezuelan reports of clandestine meetings on border controversy untrue

Guyana’s ambassador to Venezuela Dr Odeen Ishmael has dismissed as “totally untrue” an allegation in the Venezuelan media he had been summoned by the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry to a meeting following the publication of an interview and an opinion piece, or that he had been involved in clandestine negotiations with the Venezuelan Foreign Minister on the Guyana-Venezuela border controversy.

In the obituary for Cecil Griffith which appeared on page 11A in last week’s Sunday Stabroek, we gave his date of birth as October 29, 1928.
