What the people say about GuyExpo

Did you go to GuyExpo? How was it compared to last year? Were you pleased with the exhibits? We asked the man and the woman in the street these questions and this is what they had to say.

Alpha Poole, Clerk: ‘I went on Saturday to GuyExpo and I thought it was alright. They had a lot of exhibits and a large amount of people went out, I personally enjoyed myself. I did not go last year, to be honest, this was actually my first GuyExpo and it was good. I only got to go to the expo on Saturday because I’m working and that was the only time I could’ve gone. I thought the jungle theme depicted at the entrance of the expo was very creative and I plan on going next year.’

Jermaine Dewsbury, Student: ‘I went to GuyExpo on Saturday and Sunday and I looked at all the products they had on display. I think that the expo was well organised and it educated persons as well as showcased what the country has to offer. I had fun this year and I felt that it was not as complicated to get into the expo this year as it was last year. I plan on going next year.’

Jeremy Bassoo, Student: ‘I actually did not get to go to GuyExpo this year. However I got to see a bit of it on the television and it seemed interesting. I went last year and from what I saw on the television it seemed as though there were more exhibits. I was really disappointed that I did not get to visit the ‘Brain Street’ internet booth.’

Oomadat Samaroo, Auditor: ‘I went to GuyExpo last Friday and I thought it was very good this year. I think that it has been showcasing the goods of the country and this will help to boost the economy. There were some overseas companies as well taking part and I thought this was good and can help the country. This year all similar products were grouped together and it was easier to locate since they were all in one place. I think that every year GuyExpo is improving.’

Roger Hinds called Young Bill Rogers, Calypsonian: ‘I went to GuyExpo this year and I even performed songs on two occasions, Friday and Monday. I think that GuyExpo is improving and it is coming on stream with international standards. I do think that we need even more local artistes as well as exhibits. I think that GuyExpo is a good venture and Guyanese can go and view a number of products. It’s good exposure and with the involvement of international cultures we will know what other countries have to offer as well.’

Reshma Sarju, Student: ‘I went to GuyExpo on Saturday and I enjoyed myself. I thought the jungle scene at the entrance was brilliantly done and I felt everything about it was good. I enjoyed also the show that they had on Saturday and the little children who performed. The booths that were on display were ok as well.’

Seema Andries, Hairdresser: ‘I was not in the country at the time; I was in Brazil so I missed GuyExpo. I would’ve liked to be here and I did not get to see it on television. My sister told me about it and from what she has told me I know I missed out on a wonderful show. I went last year and that was good so next year I’m going and I don’t want to miss it.’

Natasha Samuels, Private sector employee: ‘I went to GuyExpo on Sunday with a friend. I especially enjoyed the furniture and jewellery. The entrance with the jungle decor was lovely. I think this year was bigger and better than last year. I enjoyed the show that they had.’

Tamekia John, public sector employee: ‘I didn’t go to GuyExpo this year because I didn’t feel like going. I don’t watch a lot of television so I missed the show too. I have actually never gone to a GuyExpo. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this last one and it has made me curious, so I will go next year.’

Loreann Baptiste, Private sector employee: ‘I went to GuyExpo. I attended the opening ceremony with my children but I didn’t get to do a lot of walking around. It was really interesting and there was a lot on display. I went again on Monday night and one thing displeased me and that was a ‘hot wuk, dance off’ competition. It was very lewd in my opinion and after a while a senior person had to ask them to stop. I was just happy I did not have my children with me that night. Apart from that I found the expo very nice.’
