Wednesday Ramblings

Congrats on Breast

Feeding Rate!

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the tireless work of the Health Minister Dr Ramsammy in single handedly keeping the breast feeding rate so high.

It has been reported that some 72% of the Cabinet actively breast feed during their weekly meetings.

No Cabinet in the history of Guyana has ever had such a high rate, and the effects of this valuable breast milk are evident in the progress this country is seeing in every sector. The happy, ruddy faces of the ministers also prove that all that tasty milk is fortifying their immune systems.

To rest of the members of the Cabinet I say: ‘Keep on sucking!’

Yours sincerely

Gas them!

I write to show my utter disappointment at the police’s handling of the picket organized by the Stabroek News outside the Commonwealth summit.

Such demonstrations should not be allowed as they are an embarrassment to this country

which is by far the most democratic in the English speaking South American continent.

As we have seen in Burma recently, the army effectively moved in and tear gassed and shot protestors, quickly dispersing the crowds. Why was this not done on Monday?

This is a democratically elected government and how the government chooses to use its funds to place ads simply reflects the will of the people.

The circulation of the Guyana Chronicle has never been higher: Imagine that on Wednesday July 31 the circulation copies (printed not sold) reached 5413 (spoils were 2367 – very wasteful but what the heck the taxpayer can afford it): and that on Saturday July 28 the circulation copies were 5405 (spoils 717).

How on earth can the Stabroek News justify its demands for ads, given its paltry audited 12000 daily – actually paid for – circulation?

Stabroek News needs to get its circulation down to that of the Chronicle before the government should even begin to think of giving it any ads.

Yours sincerely

Just come out and say it!

Why can’t we just come out and say what the majority of the country wants? That is for our beloved Comrade Leader President Bharrat Jagdeo to be our president for life? These half measures of granting him only two more terms are not a proper reflection of the love our people feel for this man/semi god.

The Putin Option may be ok for Russia but I for one would be ashamed to have our Supreme Leader have to go to parliament as a lowly prime minister and actually mix with opposition MPs. The constitution is not written in stone nor expressly designed to block political expediency. It’s there to be changed! It is high time the nation starts to make its voice clear: Jagdeo for life!

Yours sincerely

Long live the pit latrine

The PAHO project to improve pit latrines in Region Three is truly commendable. Of course the snooty critics will say that 150 years after the invention of the water closet, Guyanese should be progressing to indoor toilets; that improving pit latrines is like developing the gramophone; and that if a government can spend US$20M on a cricket tournament it could afford to put a toilet bowl in every home
