Thirteen minors remanded over $3.1M robbery

Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan yesterday remanded into police custody 13 boys who allegedly broke into and robbed a man’s store of articles worth millions.

The boys who range in age from 13 years to 16 years had two break and enter and larceny charges read to them. Eight of the boys pleaded guilty to the first charge while five of them pleaded not guilty. On the second charge four pleaded guilty while nine pleaded not guilty.

It is alleged that between November 30 and December 15, 2006 the boys broke and entered the store of Shazam Ibrahim and stole 100 blank DVDs, three DVD players, 11 flashlights, two walkie-talkies, one remote-control toy airplane, one remote-control toy truck, 17 cellular phones and nine cameras all to the total value of $1,649,600. They allegedly struck again between December 24 and 26 and stole 13 cellular phones valued at $1,493,000 property of Ibrahim. The parents of some of the boys were present in court.

Their case was transferred to court six for January 29.
