AK-47 search comes up empty

Ranks of the Joint Services on Friday morning combed a few homes in Buxton, East Coast Demerara following information that a suspect was hiding out in the village and might have had one of the stolen army AK-47 rifles in his possession.

A senior officer of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) told Stabroek News that on learning of the suspect’s supposed presence in the community ranks checked through parts of the village but the searches yielded nothing.

The source did not reveal the name of the suspect but noted that ranks were waiting on further information to decide on their next move.

Guyana Defence Force ranks maintain a permanent presence in the village. The officer says that the army remains vigilant and was determined to go all out to recover the remaining missing weapons.
