Rose Hall youth club fetes children, senior citizens at Christmas

The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) said it invested $1.2M to make the season brighter for underprivileged Lower Corentyne residents.

A press release from the club said the programme is a yearly event which comes under its annual $5M charity exercises which seeks to make a difference in the lives of the poor and needy. The RHTYSC said the programme started on December 12 with a special luncheon for 80 senior citizens where, in addition to the meal, they were each given a Christmas gift and a hamper with about $15,000 worth of food. During the luncheon the club also presented 93-year-old Arthur D’Andrade with household and kitchen utensils. D’Andrade’s home was destroyed by fire in November. During December the RHTYSC also hosted a Christmas party for 400 needy children. In addition to a meal and snacks each child also received a toy. The club’s patron Roop-Group’s Peter Ramsaroop also donated toys to the Canaan Children’s Home at Albion. Special prizes were also given to the RHTYSC’s volunteers and to business and other persons in the town who had assisted the club throughout the year. Club Secretary and Chief Executive Officer Hilbert Foster said the RHTYSC strongly believes that no one should go hungry or thirsty during the Christmas season. Foster said the club “follows the teaching of Jesus’ message to serve others and to touch the lives of the less fortunate” and, in keeping with this committed to assisting more underprivileged persons.
