Taxi driver robbed at gunpoint by couple

A taxi driver was robbed at gunpoint of cash by a man and woman who hired him early Sunday morning to take them to New Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.

Police said that around 3 am Roy Sharma, 55, of Albouystown was robbed of $26,000 by the couple, one of whom had a handgun.

So far no arrest has been made and investigations are continuing.

According to reports, when the two suspects hired Sharma, the man occupied the front passenger’s seat while the woman sat at the back. When they were in the vicinity of the housing scheme, the male suspect assaulted Sharma with a gun before relieving him of the cash. The couple then made good their escape.
