Murder accused in Lamaha Railway Embankment stabbing remanded

A man who allegedly stabbed a horse cart operator twice at his Railway Embankment home resulting in his death was yesterday refused bail by Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Mark Stenuel, age 41, who resides at 352 East Street, North Cummingsburg was not required to plead to the capital offence of murder.

It is alleged that on January 9 at Lamaha Railway Embankment, Georgetown he murdered Mark Gaskin. It was reported that Gaskin, a 44-year-old horse cart operator had stabbed his girlfriend’s sister during a heated argument. On the day in question Stenuel, who is said to be a relative of the injured woman, went to Gaskin’s home and stabbed him twice in the chest and in the back.

Stenuel told the court that he has another matter before the court concerning his alleged possession of 10 grammes of cannabis. He stated that it was a coincidence that he was on bail when the incident occurred.

He will return to court on February 19.
