Twenty-two held in guns’ discovery

Police have arrested and held two persons for questioning in relation to the recovery of an unlicensed firearm and another 20 have been arrested in connection with various offences at the weekend.

A police release said two persons remained in custody following a search at a house in Regent Street Georgetown on Saturday in which police found a .38 revolver with three live rounds of ammunition.

Charges against those persons are to be laid shortly, the police said.

On that same day police also conducted raids in several wards in Georgetown including Sheriff, Leopold, Norton and Princes streets, Queenstown and Prashad Nagar.

A .32 Taurus pistol with seven live rounds, a .38 revolver with six matching rounds and a number of articles were recovered during this search.

The police said several homes were also searched and 20 persons were arrested for various criminal offences including robbery under arms.

Five of these have so far been positively identified as being involved in robbery under arms committed in Georgetown and charges are to be laid shortly.
