Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan granted bail to the Mahaicony Postmaster who was previously charged with stealing more than $1M when he yesterday appeared at court to answer another charge of larceny.
According to the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court report Michael Joseph, 41, of Postmaster’s Quarters, Mahaicony, on December 19, 2006 at the Mahaicony Post Office (MPO), allegedly stole $3,104,114, property of the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC).
He was not required to plead. Joseph’s attorney, Roger Yearwood, told the court that the second charge emanated from the same facts as the one with the clerk.
Joseph and his clerk Roxanne Abrams, 32, of Lot 5, Zeskenderen, Mahaicony, first appeared at court two weeks ago on two charges of larceny by clerk or servant. According to the facts of the case, on December 16, at the MPO, Joseph and Abrams, being employed as clerk or servant at the GPOC, stole the sum of $726,140. They have also been accused of stealing $814,052 from the MPO on December 18. The money was discovered missing after an audit was done.
Joseph was ordered to appear at the Mahaicony Magistrate’s Court on February 5, the same date that was given for the other cases.
