Diplomats’ wives paint Habitat home

Six women from the Diplomatic Spouses Association (DSA) yesterday undertook a house-painting expedition under the auspices of Habitat for Humanity Guyana Inc’s Women Build Project (WBP) at Westminster, West Bank Demerara.

Led by WBP Patron Sarah Wheeler, wife of British High Commissioner to Guyana Fraser Wheeler, the group included Donna Robinson, wife of American Ambassa-dor to Guyana, David Robinson; Branka Court, wife of the Canadian High Commissioner to Guyana Charles Court, Tetty Baxter from DFID/British High Commission (BHC), Michelle Bryan of the BHC, and Carolyn Cudmore from the Canadian High Commis-sion.

Aletha Parris, whose future home was the one being painted, told Stabroek News that she was very grateful to finally have her own home. Parris, who is currently renting a place in Wortmanville with her family, thanked the women profusely.

The wives, most of whom were embarking on their first painting expedition, said they were enjoying the activity and when Stabroek News left, they had almost finished painting the interior of the home.

Habitat for Humanity Guyana Inc is a non-profit organization and to date has provided shelter for more than 300 families on the East Coast Demerara, West Bank Demerara and East Bank Demerara in Georgetown and Linden. WBP was initiated by the organization to get women involved in its activities.
