Linden child dies after tractor collision

A ten-year-old student of Christianburg Primary School, Linden died tragically on Cholmondeley Hill, Wismar early yesterday afternoon while riding a bicycle which collided with a tractor-trailer a short distance from his home.

According to information reaching this newspaper, Keron Daniels was riding a bicycle when he ran into a tractor and trailer near his home.

Speaking with Stabroek News the child’s mother, a newspaper vendor, said that she was waiting at her child’s school for her son to return with her bicycle. “I deh just come from Christianburg from selling papers when I see Keron. He ask me fuh len he deh bicycle fuh go home and change he pants to return to school for practice.” According to the distraught mother her son offered to drop off some newspapers at two homes before returning with the cycle. Eyewitnesses said that the child came riding out of a cross street apparently without brakes and he rode into the tractor, PGG 1002 which was on its way up to Blue Berry Hill for its regular water distribution. After hitting the tractor the boy held on to the trailer but soon let go after being injured. He then skidded under the front wheel of the trailer.

According to eyewitnesses, after the driver realized the boy’s plight he attempted to stop but the vehicle started rolling down hill. “All we hear was Keron shout and that was it.” The child was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Keron was a Grade 4 student at the Christianburg Primary School. He was the 4th of his mother’s six children. At the time of his death he was preparing for this year’s school Mash competitions.
